Character status

Character Title Overview

A character's status determines how many build points the character has when they select their starting stats during character creation or reincarnation. It also affects which difficulties they can open a new quest on by default.

An icon on your character sheet indicates which character status your character currently possesses - when moused over, this shows the name of your status, how many build points you have and how many of each type of past life you possess. Your status is also indicated, in text form, on your description screen when you or another player selects you from their Focus Orb.

Adventurer status

• New players start their careers in DDO as adventurers.
• Until Champion status is unlocked on a server, any non-Iconic character created on that server will start as an Adventurer.
• This is a 28-point build.

Adventurer characters on a non-VIP account (Premium/Free to Play) can only open quests on Casual or Normal to begin with. Hard, Elite and Reaper must be unlocked via completion of previous difficulties or purchasing a Hard or Elite difficulty unlock in the DDO Store.

Champion status

• Champion characters start with 32 build points (except for Drow, who stay at 28.)

Champion status can be unlocked in two different ways:

• Account-wide, it can be purchased from the DDO Store using 1,495 DDO points.
• Champion status can be unlocked without a purchase on a particular server by earning 1,750 Total Favor with a character on that server. (This unlock persists if that character reincarnates, but it is wiped at the end of each season on the Hardcore Server.)
• Iconic Heroes begin with Champion status by default.

When you unlock champion status:

• New characters that you create start with 32 build points.
• Existing characters stay unchanged. You can perform a Lesser Reincarnation to benefit from the 4 additional build points.

Champion characters on a non-VIP account (Premium/Free to Play) can only open quests on Casual or Normal to begin with. Hard, Elite and Reaper must be unlocked via completion of previous difficulties or purchasing a Hard or Elite difficulty unlock in the DDO Store.

Hero status

• A character achieves Hero Status by True Reincarnating once.
• This is a 34-point build (30-point for Drow.)

After True Reincarnating once and achieving 'Hero Status', you gain 'wings' around your character's name, which are visible to other players. Your character will also be very slightly taller than an adventurer or champion (this is only really noticeable if you stand next to a character of the same race.)

Hero characters on a non-VIP account (Premium/Free to Play) can open quests on Hard by default without purchasing anything or completing Normal difficulty. They will still need to unlock or purchase access to Elite and Reaper difficulties.

Legend status

• A character achieves Legend Status by True Reincarnating twice.
• This is a 36-point build (32-point for Drow.)

Legend Status, unlocked by True Reincarnating the same character twice, grants a second height increase (your character is now noticeably taller than an Adventurer or Champion status character.) It does not have any further effects on your character's name,

Reincarnating more than twice won't grant additional build points or make your character taller, but you can still gain additional Past Life Feats, eventually leading up to Completionist if you get them all.

Legend characters on a non-VIP account (Premium/Free to Play) can open quests on all difficulties including Casual, Normal, Hard, Elite and Reaper, with no need to unlock or purchase anything.
