The Necropolis[edit]

If you try to talk to him while at level 19 or lower, he will reply:

  • Birtran Kenworthy: I'm afraid the Flame has other uses for me at the moment.

If you are at level 20 or higher, however, he will reply:

  • Birtran Kenworthy: For a time the Tree of woe was quiet. Now eerie sounds once again issue from beneath its roots.
  • Birtran Kenworthy: Can it be true? Is it possible that the Doomsphere has returned again? It must be the Black Abbot's doing!
    • You: Beholders are bad, and undead beholders are worse. remind me where to find this Doomsphere and I'll look into it.
      • Birtran Kenworthy: The Doomsphere's Haunt lies beneath the Tree of Woe, deep within the Orchard of the Macabre. The barriers between the Planes are weakened inside the Orchard, and the icy winds of Risia blow through those haunted tunnels.
        • You: I'll find out what's going on inside the Doomsphere's Haunt. (Bestow quest)
    • You: Doomsphere? What are you talking about?
      • Birtran Kenworthy: Cholthulzz the Doomsphere was one of the Black Abbot's lieutenants. In the end, the undead beholder rebelled against the Abbot and vanished form the Orchard ... but now it seems the fearsome creature has returned!
      • You: Is this Doomsphere working for the Black Abbot, or against him?
      • Birtran Kenworthy: Hard to say. It's true that Cholthulzz did turn against his master. Yet the Black Abbot may have used powerful magics to compel the creature to act as his pawn.
        • You: Beholders are bad, and undead beholders are worse. remind me where to find this Doomsphere and I'll look into it.

Talking to him after acquiring the quest, but before completion, will make he say:

  • Birtran Kenworthy: Find the Doomsphere's Haunt and deal with that undead aberration!

On completion of quest, he will congratulate you with the following:

  • Birtran Kenworthy: That Doomsphere will trouble us no longer. And it seems it may have been a mercy to destroy it. Take this as your reward for your service.

After completing the quest and taking the reward, if you talk to him again, he will reply:

  • Birtran Kenworthy: We hear strange tidings of the Doomsphere's Haunt. Can we ask you to look into the tunnels beneath the Tree of Woe?
