Green Steel Tidy Up[edit]

  • The following list of pages are not for immediate deletion, I am compiling this list as I integrate all the information I find everywhere on the wiki into my guide: Current Projects
  • I will notify an admin when all pages have been processed, I do have a compiled list of links on my Links page I have compiled and am sifting through.

These pages once all incorporated should have their redirects forward to the initial introduction page as a starting point for those seeking information: Green Steel: Introduction.

Agonshar (ContributionsMessage) 15:52, May 7, 2014 (EDT)

I will keep eye on these, already replaced obvious one (Green Steel equipment) with a redirect (thats what you do, replace with redirect not just delete). I really dig your idea of replacing recipe chart with new UI screenshots. →
CRAFTred.png
however, I do have a concern that, some of your terminology aren't helpful to us old-timers. for example "Crafted ingredient" is bad, stick with "Manufactured ingredient". "Stage 1,2,3" is the one really bad, "Tier 1,2,3" is the one more commonly used in this matter.
well I guess we have to have another place for discussion but I used to put a lot of effort onto these Green Steel pages just to keep the terminology intact. I remember things around dual shard upgrade were very tricky, people were coming up with their own terminology left and right (Quasi-Focus, Aspect Dominance, Dual-Affinities, uh yikes...) GS pages are like most ancient pages on this wiki and I know they still are somewhat messed up but they are not end game anymore but twink gear for TR grind, so we probably shouldn't mess with terminology at all. --yoko5000 (ContributionsMessage) 02:57, May 10, 2014 (EDT)

Taking on board the comments about traditional naming values for green steel crafting steps I have amended all instances of the word STAGE to the much more well known and community wide used name of TIER. Thanks for the constructive input guys, I knew full well I was rocking the status quo when I implemented the STAGE name, it was purposeful to see the uptake on it; more to check if it was a clearer was of presenting this crafting process. Its not, and thats a good thing as sometimes the old ways ARE the best ways after all, but good to check now & then.

Slow going right with this project as I just enjoyed a fishing trip for a few days to disconnect myself and recharge; so its back to it !!

But on the note of the 'manufactered' description - thats has to go as a manufactured item involves production and assembly - usually bulk quantities via factories; look at Cannith Manufactury - thats why its named thus - mass production. The 'Crafting' description is much more fitting to this area as a crafted item is made by an individual from start to finish as is Green Steel. Template Quest and MissionInfoBox Update[edit]

Layout of item pages[edit]

Since few weeks ago, the layout of item pages is a bit broken for me. I now have horizontal scroll bar for all item pages. Previously, all such pages were displayed correctly on my display resolution. Now the pictures seem to no longer fit in the window. Anyone knows what I am blabbering about or should I post a screen shot? --Cru121 (ContributionsMessage) 12:23, August 21, 2015 (EDT)

  • Screenshot or it didn't happen. ShoeMaker (Contributions Message) 13:27, August 21, 2015 (EDT)
    • Here's a pic: [1]. Previously, at this window width (and also much lower widths) the picture was displayed correctly; the frame in which the picture belongs was also displayed correctly, the first and second column was condensed instead. Now I need IIRC at least 1600 window width to display item pages without horizontal scroll bar. --Cru121 (ContribsMessage • Rights • Block • Rename • Check) 07:09, August 22, 2015 (EDT)
      • Nothing has changed with the templates or with the site CSS that I can see that would cause that. I do plan on getting back to my T:Named Item project at some point, and I'll make sure that it is fixed before that goes live. Smile ShoeMaker (ContribsMessage • Rights • Block • Rename • Check) 07:33, August 22, 2015 (EDT)
        • SOLVED: This behavior seems to be caused by my adblocking plugin, uBlock.--Cru121 (ContribsMessage) 07:47, September 27, 2015 (EDT)
  • Previously I stated that the behavior was solved by disabling uBlock, it is not true, still happening. Revisiting this because apparently other ppl ran into this as well (User_talk:Technical_13/2015/4#Item_pics/descriptions). --Cru121
    • Like I said on my talk page, it's on my to do list. I should be able to finish it up by the end of the year. :) ShoeMaker (ContribsMessage) 06:46, October 31, 2015 (EDT)
      • Frowning Face Didn't happen last year, but it's getting much closer to the top of my "old to-do list" which keeps getting interrupted by new stuffs. I'm about to have a new son next month, and hopefully the couple months I expect to be away from the wiki will give me a renewed vigor for this project. Incorporate the Dashboard by EllisDee37 on to the home page[edit]

Have a link to new player information on the LHS menu of the home page[edit]

DDO is dying. There are less and less players on and the userbase is shrinking. One way we can change that is making it easier for others to learn and play with others - to *connect* with other players to help get over the learning curve that can be so frustrating. DDOwiki is a key tool in doing this - it is frequently referred to by others driving traffic to this site and increasing the visibility to those who might come at the game for the first time. At the moment the new player information is referring to as 'Getting Started' and over half way down the front page (it takes me 3 actions to make this visible via 3 scrolls down of my mouse). My suggestion is that as new players are so critical to the game that the visibility of this information is increased - I suggest a direct link to the Getting Started section on the LHS of the page called "new player information" --User:Melicat

  • It's also in the MW:Sitenotice/MW:Anonnotice on the top for every visitor of the wiki. "Newbie Guid". I indicated that this link would be updated once your updated content was ready and moved to mainspace. I also agree it won't hurt to add something about it to the sidebar. Currently, the only lack of agreement here seems to be what such a thing should be called. My impression is that the landing page for this project is intended to be more of an alternative home page/site map for the newest of players. If this is the case, it should probably be called a "New Player Portal". Since an "Information" page on wiki means a page with information about a page, such as Information on DDO wiki:Administrators' noticeboard/Requests, it probably shouldn't use that term at the risk of adding confusion later. Guide or Manual might be alternative options depending on the format/layout of the page we're linking to. ShoeMaker (Contribs • Message) 15:11, May 2, 2017 (EDT)
  • Portal is a technical word. I suggest that any wording chosen is consistent with the DDO wording which is "New Player Advice & Guidance". - Meli

Add Reincarnation to sitenotice[edit]

Done DDOstream (ContribsMessage) 10:03, July 3, 2019 (EDT)

Given how major (and complicated) the mechanic Reincarnation has become, I figured it might be a good idea to add the Reincarnation page to the links at the top of the home page to allow for easier/more convenient access by visitors seeking such info, especially new players. I'm assuming this would require the approval of someone with the permissions to do so though.

Thoughts?

Disambiguation pages being orphans[edit]

I think that disambiguation pages shouldn't be considered orphans since, ideally, they shouldn't have any other page linking to them.

There are some that were tagged as orphans (Augmentation). Should the template be removed?

Mogafi (ContribsMessage) 13:20, August 23, 2018 (EDT)

  • Yes, of course the template should be removed. The reason it was added to the pages in the first place was a very poor usage of a bot: User:Kobold sneak. Faltout (ContribsMessage) 15:18, August 23, 2018 (EDT)
    • It wasn't Kobold sneak specifically. It was added by DDO:AWB and will be readded anytime someone uses that with that specific feature turned on unless the page is tagged with {{Nobots}}.  👟 ShoeMaker (Contribs • Message) 👟 19:43, August 23, 2018 (EDT)
      • I thought that much. In that case, should the template disambiguation add the nobots tag? Mogafi (ContribsMessage) 04:56, August 25, 2018 (EDT)
        • AWB doesn't transclude templates, it reads the raw wikitext.  👟 ShoeMaker (Contribs • Message) 👟 18:05, August 25, 2018 (EDT)
