Zawabi's Refuge[edit]

If you try to talk to him while at level 8 or lower, he will reply:

  • Jaefan Druz: I am here seeking justice! Justice for the poor slaves of the gnolls, for instance. And perhaps a bit of justice for myself. I have long hungered for the power to save the victims of evil... the power to strike down those who oppose my good works. I have spent my life destroying the villains who stood between myself and the power to bring justice. One by one, my enemies have fallen. Now, with your help, I will complete my journey. And rescue a pack of hapless slaves in the bargain.

If you are at level 9 or higher, however, he will reply:

  • Jaefan Druz: I have heard many tales of your courage, <name>. It is an honor to meet you. No, it is more than an honor—it is an opportunity! An opportunity to join forces with a great hero of Stormreach! Fate brings us together this day, when so many innocents victims await the coming of a champion.
    • You: Tell me more about the victims of whom you speak.
      • Jaefan Druz: Jaefan smiles. Oh, they are the most wretched of folk. Deep in the Burning City, the Firebrand gnolls have enslaved dozens of innocent victims. They torture these slaves with wicked magics they learned from demons and outsiders. And they have an artifact that allows them to call upon the desert efreet! Without the Orb of the Efreet, they could not cause such suffering. You must find this Orb and bring it to me!
      • You: And what will you do with the Orb?
      • Jaefan Druz: I will destroy the Orb of the Efreet! What else would I do with it? But you must first defeat its guardian, Rashad the Vizier, who is a mighty power in the Menechtarun. Go to the Burning City, free as many slaves as you find convenient, and take the Orb from Rashad. With that Orb, we an achieve more good than you can possibly imagine!
        • You: I have no love for the slave-taking gnolls. I will seek the Burning City. (Bestow quest)
          • Jaefan Druz: A wise plan. You will not regret casting your lot with mine.
    • You: You seem well-informed about Stormreach. Why do you sojourn in the Demon Sands?
      • Jaefan Druz: I am here seeking justice! Justice for the poor slaves of the gnolls, for instance. And perhaps a bit of justice for myself. I have long hungered for the power to save the victims of evil... the power to strike down those who oppose my good works. I have spent my life destroying the villains who stood between myself and the power to bring justice. One by one, my enemies have fallen. Now, with your help, I will complete my journey. And rescue a pack of hapless slaves in the bargain.

Talking to him after acquiring the quest, but before completion, will make he say:

  • Jaefan Druz: More slaves of the Firebrand die every day. The gnolls are known for eating their workers—usally alive, so that the meat is flavored with tears and screams. Why do you delay? Truly, until you take the Orb of the Efreet from those beasts, you are responsible for every tear, every scream....

On completion of quest, he will congratulate you with the following:

  • Jaefan Druz: You...? I never expected you to return alive! But this means... you have broken the defenders of the Burning City? You have claimed the legendary Orb of the Efreet? Tell me! Tell me if this is so!
  • You: What of the slaves? Do you not wish to hear of their fate?
  • Jaefan Druz: Bah! There will always be slaves and masters. But are gnolls fit and worthy masters? Hardly! To bring justice to the world—to raise worthy masters over the weakling rabble—we must seize the power of mastery from the unfit. You hold such a power in the form of Rashad's Orb. Whereas I hold the power Zawabi needs—the Orb of the Djinn, which I will trade you for the efreet's artifact. Will you give me the Orb of the Efreet? Or have all your efforts been for nothing?
  • You: Despite your disturbing words, I trust Zawabi. I will give you the Orb for the djinni's sake.
  • Dungeon Master: You obtain an Orb of the Djinn.
  • Jaefan Druz: Jaefan Druz lays eager hands on the Orb of the Efreet. The flames of the Orb are drawn into his skin, leaving nothing but an empty glass sphere. Smiling, Jaefan drops the sphere to the ground, where it shatters into a thousand shards. Jaefan has destroyed the Orb of the Efreet -- but not in the manner you envisioned. You glimpse a flicker of fire in his eyes....

After completing the quest and taking the reward, if you talk to him again, he will reply:

  • Jaefan Druz: is it not wondrous how an insignificant act of kindness can lead to vast rewards? Think of those slaves you rescued. Their lives, if I may speak plainly, were worthless. Most of them probably died in their flight across the Menechtarun. Yet, by breaking their chains, you gained the Orb of the Efreet and brought it to me—jaefan Druz, the savior of Eberron! The flames of magic burn ever stronger in my mind. Soon, very soon, I will commit such acts of power that all Eberron will bow to my glory....
