Slaad race
Description[edit]
Denizens of the plane of Kythri, the toad-like Slaadi are creatures of pure chaos. As befits their anarchic nature, there are numerous types of Slaad with dramatically different characteristics. The ultimate goal of any slaad is to become a Death Slaad, but to achieve this, Slaad may have to undergo up to four different transformations into other types of slaad, each of which has its own baffling prerequisites.
A Slaad's weakness is its control gem, which is typically embedded in its brain. A creature that obtains the control gem may, while holding it, force the Slaad to obey its commands. If the gem is released, however, the Slaad is released from any obligations and will usually waste no time in taking revenge on its captor.
(DDO seems unable to make up its mind on what type and alignment Slaad are. The ones in Search and Rescue and Ravenloft are Aberration type, but the ones in The Devil's Gambit and An Element of Chaos are Evil Outsiders. Even more confusingly, despite their backstory, the Slaad in The Devil's Gambit are Lawful Evil! Based on D&D lore, their default type and alignment should probably be Aberration type and Chaotic Neutral.)
Combat[edit]
A slaad's exact attacks depend on its sub-race, but all of them have at least a basic punch attack, which deals Bludgeoning damage.
Qualities[edit]
A slaad's exact qualities depend heavily on its sub-race, but all slaad except those in The Devil's Gambit possess immunity to chaotic damage.
