Named vs Unique and Specific[edit]

After much debate on this subject, a couple of Main editors have decided on using the word Named to cover all items that can not be randomly generated in the game. As for words Unique and Specific, they both don't really fit here as there are truely no unique items in DDO and Specific doesn't cut it either, it actually sounds unique to me. As such I will be slowly converting templates and item pages as go through to correct mistakes and add images to each page. Please be patient as this will take time and it is the best way for me to verify that all items are accurate according to in-game information. Elliot I do have one question for you. Is there anyway to do a bulk upload off all the item images I have?

Dragonstar 14:07, January 20, 2008 (EST)

You mean, _you_ decided. If you can't handle that other people might have better ideas than you, you really should not be doing any community work. You go editing, locking down, deciding and deleting things left and right without grounding any of your actions. Having editor tag does not make you more divine than rest of us. I am contacting admin on this ruffian behavior. BlackSmith 19:08, January 20, 2008 (EST)
He had my approval, next time ask me. Borror0 22:21, January 20, 2008 (EST)

Template Usage[edit]

Template are heavily used in the Items section and when adding new items you should always use the specified template below for the correct item.

  • For Named Armors use Template:Unique armor
  • For Named Docents use Template:Unique docent
  • For Named Robes use Template:Unique robe
  • For Named Shields use Template:Unique shield
  • For Named Weapons use Template:Unique weapon
  • For Named Ammo's use Template:Unique ammo
  • For Named Wondrous Items (Clothing & Jewelery) use Template:Named wondrous item

Any discussion for improving templates should be talked about in one of the above templates. Please keep in mind that I will be revamping all template to use the new title Named and at the same time I will bringing in uniformity to all field names. Once again please be patient as we do this.

Dragonstar 14:47, January 20, 2008 (EST)

All of these referenced templates have been removed and replace with Template:Named (Whatever) Where appropriate. Some have no use and have been removed all together. ShoeMaker 22:15, May 18, 2011 (EDT)

Revamping[edit]

I'm currently working on a huge revamping of the equipment section. If you see the section looking weird while browsing, don't worry. It'll look more complete once I'm over. ;)

I'm not really fond of what it looks like currently. I've started the weapon section, not even half done by now. Borror0 20:33, October 4, 2007 (EDT)

I would love to know what your revamp is and includes. I have an idea but not fully thought/ out yet.

I don't like the main item page but then again I'm weird. What I'm thinking is have this page explain the different types of items (Basic, Named, Quest Related(ex. Guard Jung's Badge)). From here we can further break down the categories appropriately.

The Item template, can that be changed. I like most of what is their, but what i was thinking was making the template look more like the item screenshot itself with an icon to the left of the name and in place of the photo area have that be what the item actually looks like. Also for some items like the Basics maybe a field for showing what vendors has this item for sale. Ok I think that it for now, more to come though I'm sure Dragonstar 16:45, December 2, 2007 (EST)

Clothing category names[edit]

Just trying to ponder about the best names.. either:

  • Weapon
  • Shield
  • Body gear/equipment/item
    • Armor
    • Robe
    • Docent
  • Boot
  • Belt
  • Cloaks
  • Ring
  • Necklace
  • Goggle
  • Glove
  • Bracer
  • Helm

Or:

  • Weapon
  • Shield
  • Body gear/equipment/item
    • Armor
    • Robe
    • Docent
  • Feet gear/equipment/item
  • Waist gear/equipment/item
  • Back gear/equipment/item
  • Fingers gear/equipment/item
  • Neck gear/equipment/item
  • Eyes gear/equipment/item
  • Hands gear/equipment/item
  • Wrist gear/equipment/item
  • Head gear/equipment/item

I find that the first one is clearer for new user, but the second is more "true" (ie there aren't only helmet on the head slot). Sort of in a dilemma... =/ Borror0 02:59, December 6, 2007 (EST)

I would recommend going with something similar to the auction house, if not then the first one.
  • Armor
    • Cloth or Robes
    • Docents
    • Light Armor
    • Medium Armor
    • Heavy Armor
  • Clothing
    • Cloaks
    • Headgear
    • Boots
    • Gloves
    • Belts
  • Jewelry
    • Goggles
    • Necklaces
    • Trinkets
    • Rings
    • Wrists
  • Shields
  • Weapons
    • Simple
      • Club
    • Martial
    • Exotic

Going from memory and having just woke up so the order might be wrong but you get the general idea.

Dragonstar 07:14, December 6, 2007 (EST)
My biggest concern was more about body gear. So, we would regroup them together under armor and divide them as heavy, light, medium, robe and docent? Borror0 07:51, December 6, 2007 (EST)
Yeppers. Was thinking this way mainly because that would keep it in-line with how the game considers it. (Auction House). Dragonstar 08:05, December 6, 2007 (EST)
Ok, sounds good to me. I won't, however, separate the clothing and jewelery. Sort of unless division if you ask me. Borror0 08:51, December 6, 2007 (EST)

Remove the item descriptions text[edit]

Lets just remove the all the text description from all Category:XYZ item pages. They are out of date, its an ugly a wall of text and no one is or going to update them and knowing that dev that does the items its going to change again and again. Bladedge (ContributionsMessage) 15:59, June 20, 2013 (EDT)

Image Description Pics and Buffs[edit]

Please make sure any Buffs obtain from Enhancements, Epic Destines, Guild Bonus , Augments, have been removed before taking Image Description pic. This Mainly effects armor and shields Armor Bonus, Max Dex Bonus, Spell Failure and DR. Please make note of it in the tips section especially if you had Guild Ship buffs at the time the image was taken. Bladedge (ContributionsMessage) 13:12, July 17, 2014 (EDT)

& Green?[edit]

Seems "Green bordered" items have arrived without this page being updated. Forum post (Item With Green Border) suggests that they are random-gen loot, and also that Blue means BTA, which (if nothing else has changed!) would make it something like:

Before updating this article, the borders need confirmation. (And the approp update wouldn't hurt either.) C-Hound (ContribsMessage) 13:16, February 16, 2016 (EST)

  • I dumped the usage of the Post template that is completely broken and I need to completely remove it from the wiki at some point... Wilting -- I've also just cleaned your post up to use the Forums template which is the preferred way of linking to anything forums. ShoeMaker (ContribsMessage) 14:26, February 16, 2016 (EST)

Adding link to "Item Enchantments" Project[edit]

When looking around the wiki i noticed the Item Enchantments project is marked as an orphan (since it has no articles that link to it) and I thought that a good place to link to it would be in the Items main page. Reason being that it can be equated to a search for items by their enchantments. I realize that the Item Enchantments project is a little out of date but I am currently working on updating it (from newest updates to older updates). I also realized that it would be easy to add (purple dice) but since I am fairly new to editing I didn't want to make any bad changed to such a highly used page without asking first. Thank you everyone for taking your time to read this post and I am sorry if I neglected any wikiquette since this is my first time posting to a talk page. Greenchem4 (ContribsMessage) 13:01, November 9, 2016 (EST)

  • That was Mjoll's project and he retired from the wiki years ago. I'm sure he wouldn't mind someone picking it up and breathing new life into it. Smile ShoeMaker (Contribs • Message) 14:19, November 9, 2016 (EST)

loot/reward choices[edit]

Seemingly simple, but not to a newbie.

When one gets a choice of several quest reward options there may be items with red or gold bars on the bottom of the icon. While it may be obvious to some that a red bar means the character cannot use the item, a gold bar is less obvious. What does it mean? This information is not in the beginner guide and searching for it for 30 minutes failed to produce an explanation.

If you (Mr. Average Q. User) can't find it, then something, somewhere, is lacking, most def. A gold bar at bottom of item means "not proficient" - only found in weapons, armour and shields. The character can equip it, but there is some penalty involved. Not sure where this should go, but should def be included, w/ several #REDIRECTs to aid in finding the info easily (since it doesn't have an obvious name/reference). Sets[edit]

I think it would be a good idea to make a new page (and list) called "Sets", because I couldn't find any specific page listing sets by name. Imho it should be only a list of the set names on the "Items" page, linking to a page which contains links to all set pieces. This way, fast research for sets by name would be possible, I believe. Alrik (ContribsMessage) 07:17, June 24, 2020 (EDT)

Edit : I just found that such a page already exists https://ddowiki.com/page/Named_item_sets - but still the "items" page doesn't have a category "Sets". And not all set names give good results when used as search criteria. Alrik (ContribsMessage) 07:22, June 24, 2020 (EDT)
