Talk:Shield (spell)

From DDO wiki
Jump to navigation Jump to search

Shield is a first level spell. It is not at all difficult to verify whether or not Shield can block a Force Missile spell. Additionally, there is absolutely no reason to think that Nightshield blocks FM but Shield does not. The text of the two spells is identical in that regard.

First off, you can ask a pair of wizards to go into a tavern brawl room and each cast Shield + Force Missile to see what happens. Of course, if you ask them to do this, they will laugh and say "Of course it does! Everyone knows that". If you cannot find a wizard, you can switch to a sorcerer, rogue, or bard and spend 25 gp on a Shield scroll. If you do not have any character with UMD, you can buy one of the numerous Shield clickies found on magic items, or exchange Silver Festivult Coins for a Warforged Titan Cookie.

Once you have the ability to cast Shield, approach one of the many monsters who cast FM and watch what happens. The fastest way to get a monster casting Force Missiles is to run into the Sands of Menechatarum and find an Eternal Wizard. However, casters all over the Ruins of Gianthold and Orchard of Macabre also use this spell.

If monsters like that are too dangerous for you to survive the experimentation, you can instead purchase a few scrolls of Force Missile, and take them to the Searing Heights zone. Sulatar Clerics in that zone cast the Nightshield spell on themselves. 72.74.236.3 16:21, December 12, 2007 (EST)

Nice post anon. I've also thoroughly tested this spell and just verifying you are correct. Spell page updated to correct information (yet again). Shade 15:55, September 1, 2011 (EDT)
  • I've tested this as well, and it is incorrect. Reverting.  👟 ShoeMaker (Contribs • Message) 👟 18:22, July 25, 2017 (EDT)

As of 6/27/22, Shield provides protection from Magic Missiles, NOT Force Missiles. Nightshield provides protection against both. — previous unsignedPlease sign posts using ~~~~ comment by LargodaBastich ( c |d| r| b) at 06:58, June 28, 2022 (UTC)
