Usage

Using this template is rather complicated. Please review the available options before you continue.

Each option below is added to the {{ [[Template: | ]] | character }} template in the following format:

|option=value

where option is any of the options here documented, and value is the corresponding content. If you would prefer to leave a certain option unaccounted for, please remove it from the entry! Don't leave the option there without a value, this will break the template.

Optional values are presented in italic, required are not. If you miss any of the required options, your character may be deleted from the wiki.

Basics

These options are mostly required to create a character - if you used the 'create a new character' box on one of the characters pages, the template it gave you already contains at least all of these options with example values.

server

This is required. The value of this is equal to the name of your character's server.

description

This is required. A general description of your character, this should be longish and detailed, and can be used alone in place of adding the two options below.

playstyle

This is optional. This is to be a description of how you personally play the character, and your favorite techniques.

|playstyle=I play Testing Character like he doesn't exist - invisible and in the shadows. I like
rushing and casting spells at the same time. I group with other kinds of people who don't exist.

backstory

This is optional. Use this area to describe any fictitious role-playing backstory for your character you may have concocted. If you are a heavy role-player, it is appropriate for this area to be very very long, non-roleplayers can entirely leave it out if they like.

|backstory=This... is my backstory. I was born on 18th December, 2006 as a useless test character.
I feel like my life has no meaning )-: *cries* And now I wander around this site looking for meaning
in my existence.

guild

This is required. The name of your guild, linked with doublebrackets. Leave it out if you are unguilded.

guildrank

This is optional. This value is your rank in the guild mentioned above.

|guildrank=Officer

Build info or statistics

Again, most of these are required to have a character entry.

race

This is required. This is your race's name.

|race=Dwarf

classes

This is required. This is the number of classes your character has.

|classes=3

classⁿ and classⁿlevel

These are required, one set for each class you hold. (Same number of these entires as you entered for 'classes')

• Example: For a Rgr8/Ftr3/Bar1...

|class1=Ranger|class1level=8
|class2=Fighter|class2level=3
|class3=Barbarian|class3level=1

Abilities

These are required. Enter your character's scores for these.

• Example:

|strength=2
|dexterity=3
|constitution=1
|intelligence=7
|wisdom=48
|charisma=11

Bluff and other skills

This is optional. This should list your character's skills and your ranks in them.

• Example:

|Bluff=5
|Use magic device=8
|Intimidate=2

feats

This is optional. This should list your character's chosen feats.

• Example:

|feats=* [[Skill Focus]]: Intimidate
* [[Toughness]] x2
* [[Combat Expertise]]

enhancements

This is optional. This should list your character's chosen enhancements.

• Example:

|enhancements=* [[Fighter's Action Boost]] III
* [[Fighter's Armor Mastery]] II
* [[Fighter's Strength]] III
* [[Halfling Luck]] III

buildnotes

This is optional. This is to describe your build and the reasoning behind it in detail, and to specify what you intend to do as you progress through the future levels... as well as any meta information about the stats - the strength level during rage, your earlier decisions, whatever you want.

|build_notes=These are some BUILD NOTES OF DOOM! ZOMG! This build is REALLY LOW POWERED
and I don't think it's even possible in the game rules. But I like it cause I'm not even possible either
anyway, so we get along well. In the future levels I'm going to take blah blah blah blah blah blah
and blah. Etc and widgets.

Discussion

Class Abbreviations

For the section marked "Class:", it's my opinion that the full length of the word be displayed instead of the abbreviation. - Highway 18:57, December 28, 2006 (EST)

Classes pluralization

Are you sure we should slave the pluralization of 'Class' off to the classeslinked template?

Grr

Can anybody other than me see what's broken in my last edit? Somehow, it just prints one skill over an over, instead of all the skills on a character's page. Grrrrraaaaah! Help! Mr. Cable 02:40, January 23, 2007 (EST)

Deprecate/remove template

Description

This is an obsolete template only used on the user page of an editor who has been inactive for over a decade.

Delete
