What didn't work?[edit]

Hey Erken. I was about to try the template at the moment you changed it, so what was wrong? You had to type in |base favor=insert text. Didn't that work?

At least I'm glad you understood the template, saves me some writing. I was about to explain deeply what a Template is, but it seems you've understood most of it, just tell me if you got questions.→ Borror0 07:17, August 24, 2007 (EDT)

It just looked like the field was set slightly incorrectly. I changed it so I could get teh template to work in the quests I updated.

I am a programmer by trade, so I get to see stuff like this all the itme → Erken 07:27, August 24, 2007 (EDT)

Epic/Heroic lvl[edit]

Hi, I have just changed my first protected page. Yay! As skilled as I am, this will probably cause unintended trouble. Do you think the change is a good idea?

  • I have renamed "Level" to "Heroic Level".
  • I have renamed "Epic" to "Epic Level", and moved it just below Heroic Level.
  • I have changed Epic from y/n switch to free text; and the idea is that we specify epic level in that field.
  • We could probably not display Heroic or Epic levels if the value is not specified, but that's probably beyond my meager skill. Perhaps it will happen automatically (clueless).

→ --Cru121 (ContributionsMessage) 03:59, July 9, 2012 (EDT)

Hey Cru121... I re-instated the the Epic switch with a few minor adjustments so that if it is no, it still displays "None" but otherwise it is free text that places the quest in :C:Epic quests... I'm not exactly sure how epic levels work just yet, I've not had time to do any epics since the patch (Been working on TRs and new builds) but I'm thinking that we could simply move that line below base xp (Which could be renamed Heroic XP), rename it "Epic XP" and make an adjustment to the Xpcolors template to adapt for the new epic casual-elite color schema (if there is a difference, otherwise we can come up with something to distinguish it (symbols? Maybe something like Ⓔ??) Ideas, suggestions?
ShoeMaker (Contributions Message) 09:44, July 9, 2012 (EDT)
Yeah, I thought about having an "epic XP" line (and renaming Base to Heroic) last night, but 1) I wasn't sure if epic difficulties scaled in XP, and didn't feel like logging back onto DDO to check; 2) I didn't want to break things or leave ANOTHER suggestion to somebody causing more work, at least not for a day or two *g*; and 3) ...I swear I had a three, but I've now forgotten it. May have something to do with the time of night I had the thought...

But anyway, I'm not sure that special colors or symbols are needed - they'll be on their own line, after all. May need to re-code Template:XP bonus for those XP numbers. I'm thinking ecasual/enormal/ehard/eelite for the pipes (although eelite looks funny) and if possible the heroic and epic XP amounts should go on separate lines. So basically you'd have:

 ♣300Solo/Casual ♦600Normal ♥700Hard ♠800Elite
 ♣3,000Solo/Casual ♦6,000Normal ♥7,000Hard ♠8,000Elite

showing in the popup. Maybe with a "Heroic:" and "Epic:" tag at the beginning of the line.

Heroic:  ♣300Solo/Casual ♦600Normal ♥700Hard ♠800Elite
Epic:  ♣3,000Solo/Casual ♦6,000Normal ♥7,000Hard ♠8,000Elite

Also, would it be possible to have the XP bonus and xpcolors templates be listed as Casual instead of Solo? Or rather, as well as, but only one of them shows up (so it doesn't break old quests still listed as Solo until they can be changed)? That's been vaguely bugging me for a while now, but I didn't figure it worth doing anything about... but if the templates are (possibly) going to be getting played with anyway, now's a good time to mention it *g* → LrdSlvrhnd (ContributionsMessage) 15:23, July 9, 2012 (EDT)

I had thought Template:Xpcolors accepted casual OR solo this whole time... that is the easy part to fix... I'll have to run a few epics (or at least step into them) to see what the xp differences are if any and better understand the mechanic before I change the templates...
ShoeMaker (Contributions Message) 17:35, July 9, 2012 (EDT)
See what I know? I thought that would be the difficult part! *g* AFAIK, epic XP works just like regular XP - or rather, there's really no such thing as "epic XP", just XP from epic quests. I know regular XP can be used towards epic levels/epic destinies, and I would assume that epic XP can be used towards regular levels (works in epic challenges, at least, even if you can't get into epic quests sub-20...)

LrdSlvrhnd (ContributionsMessage) 17:52, July 9, 2012 (EDT)

So, I just used E-Snitch as a test guinea pig for XP on Epic levels and it works like this:
  • E-Casual -- Quest Level 18 (-10% for being a 20 in an 18th level quest) -- 11,492 base
  • E-Normal -- Quest Level 20 -- 14,240
  • E-Hard -- Quest Level 21 -- 14,450
  • E-Elite -- Quest Level 22 -- 14,660

So, as you can see... There is not a lot of difference in base xp ( I expect that may change ). I also noted that they used the same blue - green - yellow - red color schema but called it Epic (difficulty)... ShoeMaker (Contributions Message) 18:00, July 9, 2012 (EDT)

If the MissionInfoBox should like whats in A Small Problem. I would suggest Rename Base XP to Heroic XP, add a second line called Epic XP. Maybe Create a template called Template:EXpcolors thats just for the epic xp or add some type of switch which makes the pop up show Epic normal, etc

{{xpcolors|normal=12|hard=14|elite=18|e }}. Then add a statement if Epic level is no the Epic XP line does not appear.→ Bladedge (ContributionsMessage) 14:42, August 12, 2012 (EDT)

epicxp wont display on quest page[edit]

Hay Tech , I updated the mission infobox to what is shown Template:Sandbox/Bladedge but the Epic XP line: "epicxp" only displays "N/A" when anything is entered into the line. The line works fine in the sandbox and on the MissionInfoBox page example I tested it, but on the actual quest pages it does not work correctly, but works correctly for the "xp" line. Bladedge (ContributionsMessage) 13:48, September 14, 2012 (EDT)

Found the issue had to edit the quest template as well. Also align all the maps images to the right see how it plays out. Now how to notify everyone about the new line epicxp line? Bladedge (ContributionsMessage) 21:08, September 14, 2012 (EDT)

Beautification[edit]

Hey all. I've been working on making this template looking better. I'd like some input. Here's the link of what I have: User:Ague/Projects#Quest_Mission_Info_Beautification. Post thoughts here. I'm really trying to beautify the wiki. Some things look basic compared to today's web standards, and I aim to fix that. If everyone likes what they see here, I'll see if I can get an admin to change this protected template. Ague (ContributionsMessage) 19:32, February 8, 2014 (EST)

I like it! The box-shadow CSS really makes it pop! "Tauro" (Contributions Message) 23:06, February 8, 2014 (EST)
{| style="background-color: #fff; width: 350px; float: right; text-align: justify; padding: 5px; border: 1px #000 solid; margin: 10px; box-shadow: 2px 2px 5px; border-radius: 10px;"

i like the way separation line and text alignment is set up, but i dont know about the rounded corners. its up to the rest of you guys, but we gonna have to have a discussion on how much of rounded corners we want on this site before proceeding. rounded corners for adpack template, and other meta templates are good i think (Lamania template need them). for mission info box, uh, maybe it doesnt match with other edged corners of, loading screen and other image float boxes and ToCs and such. do we want rounded corners for home? personally rounded corners reminds me too much of DDO Compendium (good concept, bad web design), its just my personal preference after all though.

btw, i will nominate you for the admin. see DDO wiki talk:Administrators/promote/Ague. → yoko5000 (ContributionsMessage) 23:47, February 8, 2014 (EST)

the 10px rounded corners is like my default setting. the rounded corners are a little better looking for making something pop and catch the eye. I've changed the box in my sandbox to have less noticeable roundness. and thx for the nomination Yoko5000. Ague (ContributionsMessage) 07:22, February 9, 2014 (EST)
I made the corners a little less rounded. Still round, but hardly noticeable. Check out the finished project on my projects tab. Ague (ContributionsMessage) 18:11, February 14, 2014 (EST)
Just wondering what everyone's thoughts are on this since it's had time to marinate in everyone's mind. Ague (ContributionsMessage) 13:33, March 3, 2014 (EST)
  • I like it, but I think I would like it even more if it took advantage of class="collapsible" so that it could be hidden on a per page basis with a single click by anyone. I've not take a moment to look at the code that you've written up for it, but I think it would be also useful to give a class="infobox-mission" (also think that other infoboxes should have similar classes like "infob-monster" and "infobox-npc" etc), so that individual users can make other minor customizing changes (like making it collapsed by default always for them or changing the color scheme a little because they have a specific color blindness or something) in their Special:MyPage/skin.js or Special:MyPage/common.js. ShoeMaker (Contributions Message) 14:39, March 3, 2014 (EST)
For some reason, I forgot to put my two cents in when you first asked. I'll do it now.

I like it and would welcome its introduction, but I'd propose a change of column justification: the left column right-justified and the right column left-justified. That way, the colons will be close to their respective data and IMHO the whole table will be easier to follow with the eyes, row after row. I'll obviously conform to the majority, but that's how I see it. :-) → Aldyron (ContributionsMessage) 15:12, March 3, 2014 (EST)

I created a quick mockup right below the original proposal to show sort of a side by side view to see how it would look like you mentioned Aldyron (Contribs • Message). Personally, I think it looks better the original way. Keep in mind that it will be populated with data as well and won't be such a long stretch on the eyes. Ague (ContributionsMessage) 16:53, March 3, 2014 (EST)
So it's been almost a month now since the last bit of discussion regarding this major change. I would like to move forward with it (with the support of others). I have created a real life mock-up on my here so everyone can look at the way it will look once deployed. I propose the first one as having all the information centered creates an unbalanced appearance. Ague (Talk · Contribs · Blocks · Deletions · Imports · Patrols · Page Moves · Page Protects · User Merges · User Rights) 15:24, April 1, 2014 (EDT)
Been gone a few months, just catching up. Like the direction and appearance except the right align, left align is usually use in wikis. This what I stated last year https://ddowiki.com/page/Template:Sandbox/Bladedge & https://ddowiki.com/page/Template:Sandbox2/Bladedge has more info of quest locations (FR or Ebberon),if secrect doors, traps. Places the quest splash screen at the top long with with its FtP, paid. Bladedge (ContributionsMessage) 16:36, April 1, 2014 (EDT)
Thanks for the good feedback, Bladedge (Contribs • Message). I was looking at the right align once I populated the template with actual data and was considering changing it to left align, but I wanted to see what others thought of it in it's current form first. I do like what you were going for in your examples, but for this stage of what I'm trying to accomplish, I was just looking at stylizing and not adding any new functionality just yet. With your idea of adding whether or not it's F2P or not, it would be incredibly redundant having the banner at the top of the screen and at the top of the infobox, don't you think? Ague (Talk · Contribs · Blocks · Deletions · Imports · Patrols · Page Moves · Page Protects · User Merges · User Rights) 16:49, April 1, 2014 (EDT)
I see the info box as a quick summary of the quest. Having the pack requirement banner elsewhere on the page as it is now defeats that. Think of it as an appstore where they give all a summary and price in one area so your eyes are not jusmping everywhere to determine if its free or paid. Expr >30, considered Legendary[edit]

I dont know where to put it but if you consider it as just a temporary fix and redo in a different way, feel free to do so. However i have a feeling displaying it this way is not a bad way because even while in Legendary instances, when you open up a XP report/score panel, it blatantly states "Epic Normal" "Epic Hard" "Epic Elite". They made new quest entry panel for these Legendary quests but the game actually dont tell the difference, it looks like. --yoko5000 (ContribsMessage) 08:07, February 6, 2016 (EST)

  • I've actually had a discussion with a developer about the inconsistencies with the quest panel, lfm, quest window, xp panel, etc and I got the impression that this is something in game with no plans to be fixed or made consistent.
When I suggested the cause might be that some of the panels are dynamic and can handle the change and the ones that still show "Epic" are not dynamic and would need to be rebuilt (probably as part of a complete UI overhaul), the answer was of the tone "Yeah... Let's go with that answer... or something" and I've had multiple discussion about their plans to do a complete UI overhaul, and it's probably not something on the todo list this year (although with Uurlock on the PC pushing it all year as I know he will - I can only hope plans could change).
As to our template (and the {{Quest}} template that uses it), it looks fine as a temporary fix to me. Yes, I still plan on completely overhauling these templates to be much more efficient, but it's going to take me time and planning to figure out all the logic. reaper xp[edit]

The reaper xp information isn't very clear. I came across a quest with those little skulls and had to follow templates to get here and find what the symbols meant. A title would probably help. Or, at the very least, change the "Template:Reaper XP" to link to the reaper page, or change the tooltip to clearly say "base reaper xp" or something along those lines. Also, the number being displayed in a tooltip, while making the page "cleaner", also makes harder to get to the actual information. And that tooltip delay makes it worse. Keeping this format, maybe displaying the rxp for all the skulls in a single tooltip (as opposed to having to check each one individually) would probably be more user friendly.
