If you try to talk to him while at level 3 or lower, he will reply:

• Thurd Steelhand: Thurd Steelhand glances at you briefly and says, I'm a little busy at the moment. Please come back a bit later.

If you are at level 4 or higher, however, he will reply:

• Thurd Steelhand: Have you heard about caves that supposedly run beneath this city ward during your travels? It's been told that the city of Stormreach was built upon the ruins of a much older city - a giant city. Unfortunately, many of the records that we hold in our vaults make no references to the ruins that might lie beneath this very foundations.
• You: Then how does anybody know they actually exist?
• Thurd Steelhand: There ar ereferences in some of the oldest documents of the caves, but no descriptions or information on how to enter them. It seems like such a shame that as we progress with the next technological leap that we tend to bury the past that got us here.
• You: How do you know that the caves lie beneath this ward?
• Thurd Steelhand: The caves sprawl beneath the entire city and beyond according to what I've read. I'm convinced that some of these buildings may have passages to the ruins, but you can't go barging into all these buildings looking for a secret passage that might exist.
• You: I guess that's true.
• Thurd Steelhand: But there is a condemned building nearby that I want to investigate when I have a spare moment. It should have been torn down years ago. Would you be interested in doing the grunt work for me? It wouldn't be an official task for House Kundarak or anything.
• You: Sure, just tell me where to go. (Bestow quest)
• Thurd Steelhand: I've marked the location on your map as the Forgotten Caverns. Let me know if you find anything.

Talking to him after acquiring the quest, but before completion, will make him say:

• Thurd Steelhand: Take care while you're looking around that building. It's liable to collapse in around your ears.

On completion of quest, he will congratulate you with the following:

• Thurd Steelhand: Well, I'll be damned! Judging from the looks of you, those caves really do exist. I knew it! What was it like? Did you find any remnants of its past inhabitants? I'm sorry, where are my manners. I'm just so excited. Are you okay and what was down there?
• You: There were some giants and trolls, but they're all dead now.

After completing the quest and take the reward, if you talk to him again, he will reply:

• Thurd Steelhand: Well, I'll be damned! Judging from the looks of you, those caves really do exist. I knew it! What was it like? Did you find any remnants of its past inhabitants? I'm sorry, where are my manners. I'm just so excited. Are you okay and what was down there?
