Hi Backley[edit]

Just saw your post in the DDO Forum ... well, I already added the table for the crafting here Talk:Crafting if you haven't seen yet, so it seems we did a little bit of double work here :( ... I also got some pictures to explain the crafting steps as well as I currently prepare to upload and add the information for the items. What in your table at least should be added is the information what upgrade we get to be able to filter on that, e.g. vampiric. Also I guess it is important to note that all BtA items become BtC with the upgrade. This is very important in that case that for several players more preferable to have three +5 Skill items with a set bonus that they can freely move to other characters then have this just upgraded to +6 Skill and fixed to a Character.
Also UltraMonk mentioned that he might wanted to update and streamline the crafting content a little bit, which is why I didn't created a page yet.
Anyway, nice work so far. --SisAmethyst 13:14, November 24, 2010 (EST)
PS: maybe we can use the Icons in the Table and only have the name show up on mouse over? --SisAmethyst 14:02, November 24, 2010 (EST)

Interesting table you have, but I don't think we need anything from it. You can already sort by the crafted item name to see sort by effect added (since it is a prefix). I would like more info on what each means, probably in the upper sections.

I think ALL of the crafted items come out as BtC on Equip, right? we need to add that, if true.

I don't think the icons would work well in the table, since the table doesn't have a problem with width but is already fairly tall (and the icons would make it taller if anything). --Backley 19:10, November 24, 2010 (EST)

Pirate Event Items[edit]

Just saw that table approach for all the event items which looks quite nice. I added the additional columns for the cost. Just had to update the weapon template in between as the Cutthroat's Smallblade uses a rather unconventional damage profile. Juts noticed that you took over the editing, which is fine, as I then can go and take a nip, as it is already 4:28 in the night :) -- SisAmethyst 22:31, April 15, 2011 (EDT)
Which needs completing, if you wouldn't mind.. :) ShoeMaker 01:07, April 16, 2011 (EDT)

Augment Crystals[edit]

I've re-vamped Template:Augment on a sandbox so that it lists your choices when you mouse-over it. Some of the lists are kind of long, and I would like some input on if you guys think this revised template should be implemented. Here are the examples:

I am posting this on the talk pages of: Xevo, Yoko5000, Neouni, Borror0, UltraMonk, Backley, Shade, Raute borge, Yawgmoth, and LrdSlvrhnd Where-as I am posting this on multiple talk pages to get more opinion, I have included "Reply here" link as well→ ShoeMaker 18:53, May 29, 2011 (EDT)

  • Latest revision as of 16:51, June 1, 2011 (edit) (undo)
  • Backley
  • m (→Prestige Enhancements Item Sets: added Class back in.)

Thank you.. That was going to be my next step.. My mind however tends to bounce around a little from project to project.. Got distracted moving unique armor new to named armor.. :-0 At least that project is done.. Thank you for getting the classes back in there, that was how I was planning on doing it as well.. On a side-note, have you seen my "Absorption" post on the forums? I'm trying to figure out the best way to make a template for that... I also want to make one for healing amp.. Then I want to redo the List of templates page, to list all of these templates and some simple usage. Any ideas?→ ShoeMaker 17:56, June 1, 2011 (EDT)

I haven't really seen the forums here, I'll go check that out. Note I had to remove the "|" from your post here to get the template to show it. Backley 18:07, June 1, 2011 (EDT)
I see no post by you on the ddowiki forums about Absorption. Maybe you mean the ddo.com forums? Link? Edit: Possibly [link] Backley 19:02, June 1, 2011 (EDT)
Yes, that was the post, and yes, I think I can build the template from the link to the other post you put there. ShoeMaker 20:01, June 1, 2011 (EDT)

Backley, please check the Monster DR and Weaknesses Talk Page. Also, my entry on the talk page has more information on the area in question. → Landar 3:10, July 14, 2011 (EDT)

Succubi really are Chaotic Devils in DDO with DR/Good or Cold Iron, tested in The Weapons Shipment. Thanks for the note on the extraneous linkage; fixed I think. Backley
And I tested it in Epic Under the Big Top, as seen in forum post (And now I can't figure out how to post a forum link here >.<) Do a DDO Forum search on "Succubi" and posts by TheDearLeader; only three results pop up, the relevant post is the second. . I will go do Weapons Shipment now to confirm, however, that my results will match my experience in eBigTop, which was : Succubi in DDO are Lawful Evil Outsiders, and do not require Cold Iron to break DR. Landar 12:55, July 15, 2011 (EDT)
Note can use Cold Iron to break DR not require Cold Iron to break DR.

Also, I think I was testing alignment with a True Law returner and a True Chaos returner.

[This] the thread?→ Backley 13:51, July 15, 2011 (EDT)

Yup. I'm currently making another forum post detailing further testing on the subject - I'll link it here when I'm done. I am pretty thoroughly convinced now that they are Lawful Evil Outsiders, and you'll see why. Landar 3:22, July 15, 2011 (EDT)
[Thread] Landar 3:28, July 15, 2011 (EDT)

Haven't tested, but pretty sure their DR is per pnp rules. 10/good or cold iron (on normal). Just seems like an obvious bug to me that they messed up their race and alignment.

DearLeader - seems like you did a lot of work in testing that, but yea missed a key element and came up with some wrong conclusions.. Just a regular cold iron weapon is whats needed to prove they only have a singular DR. (well actaully you'd have to test every metal type, since as noted it only shows 1 DR at a time on the log)

Now that said, Turbine can very well change a specific named monsters alignment to something unusual. So Malicia could well be a lawful evil demon, if they choose to do that. It's something they've done on several occasions. Cholthulzz is a good example of this - a lawful good undead beholder.. While pnp rules state undeads and beholders are pretty much always evils.

However changing ALL succubi race to something plain wrong - devil, should be considered a bug. Because I doubt turbine even has the right to do that, I mean the DnD licenses allows them to pull monsters out of the various source books and copy them in the game, but I dont think it allows them to screw with core facts like a specific core monster manual creatures race. A demon is a demon. So its a bug.

So most like just a mistake on the designers part when they were making weapon shipments and other initial devil quests, thinkign they were all the same race. Then they copied and pasted that incorect info in for malicia too.

Also - Just because an enemy is a lawful evil outsider, does not make it a devil. Outsiders can be whatever alignment they wanna be, and that exact choice doesn't dictate their race. Yea there are set paterns for generic foes, but specific named NPCs can be whatever they choose to be. Maybe Malicia wanted some monk lvls so she went lawful? lol. → Shade 17:51, July 15, 2011 (EDT)

DearLeader's [Thread] is a good place to continue this discussion. Looks like 4E made Succubi Devils, so that is what DDO used and is WAI. Still confirming alignment (Lawful Evil it seems) and DR (probably Good OR Cold-Iron). Backley 18:19, July 15, 2011 (EDT)
Above mentioned thread has been updated. Yup, it is *at least* Good or Cold Iron. Silver has not been tested. And @ Shade - Every single Succubus, in game, is a Devil (listed in Examination window), is Lawful Evil (tested in those videos), and a Lawful Evil Outsider(also tested in those videos). So up until the point where Turbine changes these specific creatures, or adds new ones, I would rather have the Wiki entry reflect the fact relevant to the game. Landar 19:20, July 15, 2011 (EDT)

In game UI skins..[edit]

I went to DDO Complete Sets on lotrointerface.com and found your user skin.. How did you make it, is there a special program for that kind of thing.. I would like to make a custom skin for my guild.. I think that would be fun and give me something to do in my bored time.. Big Grin ShoeMaker 02:12, August 2, 2011 (EDT)

The images are a bunch of mostly .TGA files (and one or two .JPG) and a text file .XML that says which images are used. I use Paint.NET for image editing, and irfanView for viewing quickly (to scroll through the images looking for stuff); both programs are free. You can start from someone else's skin, or from the UI Skin Art Pack that Turbine releases (and doesn't do a good job of updating or documenting). If I were starting now, I'd use this much better sorted art pack: [[1]] Backley 03:54, August 2, 2011 (EDT)

Copyright[edit]

Fair use is a limitation and exception to the exclusive right granted by copyright law to the author of a creative work. In United States copyright law, fair use is a doctrine that permits limited use of copyrighted material without acquiring permission from the rights holders. Examples of fair use include commentary, search engines, criticism, news reporting, research, teaching, library archiving and scholarship. It provides for the legal, unlicensed citation or incorporation of copyrighted material in another author's work under a four-factor balancing test.

Teaching -the purpose of a wiki

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Text_of_Creative_Commons_Attribution-ShareAlike_3.0_Unported_License

I posted the source of the information fully crediting them aswell as it was for non profit and the books are no longer in print or being sold by wizards of the coast.→ User:Jarredkh3 16:31, October 23, 2012

Teaching is not a blanket valid reason to qualify as Fair Use. The "four-factor balancing test" you mention in your quote of http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fair_use (which you also plagiarized since you quoted it without giving the source) has to be looked at for each instance of Fair Use.

Also, just because a wiki is used for learning info, that doesn't mean it is part of the "Teaching" excuse they mention there - they probably mean teaching in schools etc can copy works under Fair Use. This wiki is more about Gaming than Teaching, and that really doesn't help it apply as Fair Use (since using the info here would substantially compete with the source book itself).

And I don't see where in the Dwarf page you even mentioned that it came from Races of Stone (I just found it via a Google search of the first line of text).

In any case, we need a better ruling from the wiki admins on what sources are allowed for full copy-and-paste like that. I'll put this on the https://ddowiki.com/page/Forum:Help_deskBackley (ContributionsMessage) 17:29, October 23, 2012 (EDT)

Snow Panther Cub[edit]

This is quite the predicament we have here. If I have one that is BTC, but there is one on the AH, what is the bind status? I guess I could note that mine has been BTC ever since about U15. I also bought it from the AH for something but I don't believe it was BTC when I purchased it. Arthnoxx (ContributionsMessage) 08:33, January 20, 2013 (EST)

Could this item be bugged? Could it be BoE even though it claims to be BoA? Worth some research if possible... Perhaps other certs are bugged the same... Maybe get a couple polar bear cubs and find out?
ShoeMaker (Contributions Message) 09:44, January 20, 2013 (EST)

Arthnoxx: Try putting your spare Snow Panther Cub cert on the AH: maybe certs can be auctioned even when bound? Backley (ContributionsMessage)

Yep, was able to post it no problem. So looks like either it's a tooltip bug (if not meant to be BTC) or a glitch (if meant to be BTC). I'll edit the page. Arthnoxx (ContributionsMessage) 01:49, January 21, 2013 (EST)

Just kidding! HA! I did however nominate you for bureaucrat should you wish to accept the nomination... :) ShoeMaker (Contributions Message) 20:48, December 14, 2013 (EST)
