Double clickie texts[edit]

Z - K, taking your offer, quick question. I've seen several "Item" pages where the enchantment is listed twice, such as "Web — 1 Charges (Recharged/Day:1) - 1 Charges (Recharged/Day: 1)". Is this as-intended, or (as I'm guessing?) is that some auto-bot glitch? Should we tweak them back to show only once? (Or if WAI, what does the 2nd entry imply?) Misery's Web, Item:Battle Coin, etc.
Thx. C-Hound (ContribsMessage) 14:20, January 8, 2016 (EST)

  • This is because someone manually added this to a bunch of Item: pages and I wasn't aware of that when I added it directly to {{Clicky}} like it should have been from the start. I tried to clean up as many of them as I see them, but there are a bunch still out there and I just don't have the time to go through all 92,131 on the wiki to find them all. Please feel free to leave a list of ones you find on my talk page or simply edit the item page and remove the text from the page (but don't alter the templates). Thanks! • Thanks for cleaning those up! — Zav 21:57, January 8, 2016 (EST)
    • NP - by their nature, they were only on "clicky" items ("Uses/day", so they were already on their own page and that list wasn't all that long. Not sure if I got them all, but I'll go over them again later. C-Hound (ContribsMessage) 13:57, January 12, 2016 (EST)

Questions re policy[edit]

So, when I was co-Admin for the Dwarf Fortress wiki, we had a central page where we could discuss, question and explain different policies and projects, etc. to the various new editors and contributors. Now I find myself on the other side of that - it seems I'm doing things that make sense to me, but are not approp here. For instance, this orphan page looks to me like it should never have been added, and is utterly unnecessary to keep once Trade exists - but my deletion got undone (and without comment!?). Or, I added the {category:hirelings} to 2 new pages for Hireling Vendors, as it seems those articles fall into that category - but those were removed and replaced w/ a new category, "Hireling Vendors". Cool, I guess, but... frustrating to not know what should have been done.
One Wiki rule is "Be Bold!", but it seems I don't have a feel for the local (unwritten?) policies, and now I'm not sure how to proceed w some articles. Is there somewhere we, as "new editors", can talk about what is/could be/should be/isn't policy? AND veteran editors can voice explanations and get ahead of the curve re unified meta-approach to articles? C-Hound (ContribsMessage) 18:15, January 18, 2016 (EST)

  • Those are the kinds of things you pick up on as you go. If something you've done get's rolled back, feel free to ask about it on the talk page or on the talk page of whomever rolled it back. Heck, in most cases, feel free to send and email through the wiki. :) ShoeMaker (ContribsMessage) 22:11, January 18, 2016 (EST)
  • Hey C-Hound. Questions and discussions can be posted to the Forum:Help desk or the Forum:Village pump depending the nature. If an Admin is needed then use the DDO wiki:Administrators' noticeboard. As ShoeMaker said, you can ask about reverts on the talk page of the page that got reverted or the reverting user's talk page. Email is an option but be sure to include a reply address (DDO wiki doesn't reveal your email — why ShoeMaker?) or you can only get an onwiki response. ShoeMaker uses the IRC chat channel, and I could start hanging around there too if editors start using it. I always welcome questions and/or discussions here.
I understand what you mean with the orphan talk pages. Currently our forum system has the discussions posted to talk pages in the mainspace like that. Why? I don't know; it predates my editing here. I don't like the way it works. At a minimum those pages should be in the forum namespace. Ideally we should just have one page for each forum in the project namespace and archive old discussions to subpages. (I should probably start a discussion on this.) I wouldn't worry too much making some mistakes with categorization; someone will change it if it is not correct. Every time I look through categories I find a slew of things that need to be corrected but don't have the time to fix. DDO wiki doesn't have many written policies — here are some. Yes, be bold! — Zav 02:50, January 19, 2016 (EST)
    • Move them to the Forum: namespace, just make sure it's the right forum: namespace as we have two and one is broken. ShoeMaker (ContribsMessage) 22:16, January 20, 2016 (EST)

Updating {{NPC}} parameters[edit]

Those edits should have at least been marked as minor, if not done on the Kobold sneak (Contribs • Message) bot account (with AWB). ShoeMaker (ContribsMessage) 21:10, January 23, 2016 (EST)

  • My bad; they definitely should have been marked as minor. Had it just been parameter renaming, I would have used a bot; however, since parameters had to be split and linking changed, I thought it better to run it from my account. — Zav 15:43, January 24, 2016 (EST)
    • AWB doesn't require a bot account, you could have done it on your JJMC89 account with AWB marking all as minor. I just took a peek, and was surprised I was unable to check a box to mark my edits as bot with it. I'll make changed to AWB and submit a pull request for it some day... lol ShoeMaker (ContribsMessage) 19:50, January 24, 2016 (EST)

  • Thanks for the note Spaz490. To fix it you would have to move (rename) the file, which you cannot do yet. I will take care of it for you. Smile — Zav 19:57, March 21, 2016 (EDT)

Missing Portal Node[edit]

Hi, I found a Water Node at an unmarked location on the map File:Temple of Elemental Evil Part Two Air Node.png. It's location was 1180 pixels from the left edge and 700 pixels down from the top. GregJ (ContribsMessage) 19:06, March 21, 2016 (EDT)

  • Hi GregJ. I didn't make the map, SKUNK CITY did. I've left them a message about your request. You can always edit the image yourself if you're so inclined. Smile — Zav 19:57, March 21, 2016 (EDT)
