Calyx Shattermoon.jpg

Name: Calyx Shattermoon

Race: Drow Elf

Gender: Female

Bestows Quest(s): An Offering of Blood

Locations:

Description: An outcast Drow priestess, she seeks to free her people from spiritual slavery imparted by the Scorrow in the name of their god, Vulkoor.

Zawabi's Refuge[edit]

If you try to talk to her while at level 7 or lower, she will reply:

  • Calyx Shattermoon: All scorrow are held in awe by the drow tribes of Xen'drik. But the Vulkoorim claim to be the progenitors of their race, chosen by Vulkoor to lead both scorrow and drow to glory. Forsaking the nomadic ways of their kind, they have grown fat on the wealth of pilgrims and addicted to rituals of blood. I despise the Vulkoorim! They are subjecting the drow to a new kind of slavery—a slavery of faith. The Vulkoorim would kill me for saying these things, but even the arrogant clawborn dare not violate the djinni's law of peace.

If you are at level 8 or higher, however, she will reply:

  • Calyx Shattermoon: Do you wonder why I cower in Zawabi's Refuge when the Vulkoorim welcome drow from all across Xen'drik? I am an outcast, marked for death by scorrow and drow alike. Once I was a priestess, but I have grown to abhor our worship of the scorrow! Especially the Vulkoorim! It is fine to respect the scorrow as predators—but is this all my race aspires to become? Are the Vulkoorim so much greater than us, that we should fatten them with gifts and sacrifices? For uttering such heresies, I have been consigned to a life of solitude and sorrow.
    • You: I have no love for the Vulkoorim. Is it possible to strike a blow against them?
      • Calyx Shattermoon: Calyx's eyes blaze with excitement. Yes! The time of the greatest Vulkoorim rite draws nigh. To keep Vulkoor's favor, the priests must offer a potent sacrifice—the blood of a fiendish gnoll. If you steal this blood and escape, the Vulkoorim priesthood will be irrevocably stained with failure! The djinii Zawabi has also sought this blood for his own reasons, so you will serve us both in this quest. Are you prepared to seek out the Vulkoorim Spiral and risk the wrath of Vulkoor?
        • You: I fear neither the Vulkoorim nor their god. I will steal the blood. (Bestow quest)
          • Calyx Shattermoon: I shall meet you in the Vulkoorim Spiral. We will steal from the Vulkoorim their power—their vile and twisted pride!
    • You: Can you tell me more about these Vulkoorim?

Talking to her after acquiring the quest, but before completion, will make she say:

  • Calyx Shattermoon: ??????????????????

On completion of quest, she will congratulate you with the following:

  • Calyx Shattermoon: I have blessed the sacrificial blood that you stole from Vulkoor's altar, though his anger still rings in my ears. Dare you accept this gift? Or have you lost the courage to defy the scorrow-god?
  • You: I did not come this far to surrender my reward! Give me the blood.
  • Dungeon Master: You obtain a Blessed Blood Offering.
  • Calyx Shattermoon: I knew the Vulkoorim had power, but I did not expect an intervention from Vulkoor himself! The drow must look to themselves, not the scorrow-god, for their strength. Else we will find ourselves captive to forces beyond our control. Please, accept a personal reward from my collection of artifacts. There are few heroes who would risk the wrath of Vulkoor at the behest of an outcast stranger.
  • You: The Vulkoorim are corrupt in their hearts. I hope you succeed in spreading your beliefs.
  • Calyx Shattermoon: Zawabi will be glad of your success. He has long sought a way to weaken the Vulkoorim.

After completing the quest and taking the reward, if you talk to her again, she will reply:

  • Calyx Shattermoon: Your disruption of the blood ritual has turned Vulkoor's face away from the Vulkoorim priests. The scorrow-god is vengeful and does not tolerate failure. In my own blood, I feel a surge of freedom, as if Vulkoor's clawa have released their grip on this desert. You have done well!

An Offering of Blood[edit]

After you cross the whole Vulkoorim Spiral, you meet her at the exit. When you talk to her, she will say:

  • Calyx Shattermoon: Yes! The Vulkoorim rite is ruined! Hurry back to Zawabi's Refuge, and do not linger here!
