Disable Device

Skill disable device.png Disable Device (Intelligence)

Description[edit]

Requires: Thieves' Tools and must be trained to use.

Can be used to disarm traps in dungeons. Requires that the control box of the trap has been located by a successful Search check, although some traps (Spell traps and Bear traps, a successful Search check may still be required to find the trap) do not have control panels and are disarmed directly. If the Disable Device check succeeds, you disable the trap.

If it fails by 4 or less, you have failed but can try again. If you fail by 5 or more the control panel explodes (causing some damage to those in an area around the box, type specific damage of the same type as the trap or more often fire damage[UnverifiedIcon tooltip.png"or more often fire damage" has not been verified in-game. Please verify it!].) and can't be used again (the trap will remain dangerous, of course!).

If you succeed by 20 or more, you will achieve a critical success. In some quests, achieving a critical success will turn the traps against the enemies and harmless to your party.

Using this skill consumes one thieves' tool.

The Disable Device skill affects the DC of crafted Elemental Traps (see Trapmaking).
