Healer
A healer is one of the five main types of party members, alongside Tank, melee DPS, caster, and Rogue. The healer's role is obviously to restore the HP of party members before, during, and after combat or failing that, to cast Raise Dead, Resurrection, or True Resurrection.
The two most popular healer classes are Cleric (free) and Favored Soul (a premium class). In certain but limited cases, a Paladin, Bard, or caster (using wands or the Repair spells) can fill this role. (Due to the limited availability of Clerics and Favored Souls, players will often use a "pocket healer" or hireling although this is not recommended for Elite difficulty quests or raids*.
A typical build for a healer is having the highest possible SP with the best possible modifiers for healing using items, enhancements, and spells to augment the "damage" of healing spells. For this reason, a high Wisdom coupled with healing wands, SP potions, and party-friendly uses of Turn Undead are important for a durable "pure healer" or "heal battery" build.
The feat Empower Healing Spell is a requirement for any dedicated healer (as the Empower Spell metamagic feat costs more SP) as is the player's willingness to avoid aggro and allow other party members, especially tanks and rogues to go first. Favorable races for a healer can be Human**, Halfling, or Half-Elf although any race besides Warforged (due to 50% healing penalty) will work well.
- Gold Seal hirelings can be used in raids but are not recommended.
- Humans gain bonuses to being healed due to the Improved Recovery enhancements
