Name: Iosynne d'Phiarlan

Race: Elf

Gender: Female

Bestows Quest(s): Desert Caravan

Affiliation(s): House Phiarlan

Locations:

Description: Iosyne is responsible for the caravan transport between House Phiarlan Enclave and Zawabi's Refuge. Although she can transport you from Zawabi's Refuge at any time you are there, she only transports from House Phirlan after you have finished her quest.

House Phiarlan Enclave[edit]

If you try to talk to her while at level 7 or lower, she will reply:

  • Iosynne d'Phiarlan: The Menechtarun is an eternal battlefield for the Gnoll trobes, the Vulkoorim scorrow, and the Demons who manipulate both races into working their will.
  • Iosynne d'Phiarlan: But there is an oasis of safety—Zawabi's Refuge, where Zawabi the Elder Djinni was bound in times long forgotten. Within this island of peace, a small community of adventurers and magicians has formed. And that is our destination, for adventurers devours supplies like Gnolls devour their slaves!
  • Iosynne d'Phiarlan: House Phiarlan's profits will be great... assuming the Scorrow-priests don't seize our cargo, and the Demons don't catch wind of our approach.

If you are at level 8 or higher, however, she will reply:

  • Iosynne d'Phiarlan: Hello, adventurer.
  • Iosynne d'Phiarlan: You're looking for a place on the caravan headed for the Menechtarun Desert, aren't you?
  • Iosynne d'Phiarlan: No need to explain—I've signed up a lot of new guards over the past few days. And we'll need them all, if we're going to survive the crossing.
    • You: I would like to sign up for the desert crossing. (See the previous section)
      • Iosynne d'Phiarlan: Indeed? Before you commit yourself to defending House Phiarlan's wares, you should know what you are risking.
      • Iosynne d'Phiarlan: The Vulkoorim Scorrow call Drow pilgrims from all across Xen'drik to their great rites, and they are eager for sacrificial victims.
      • Iosynne d'Phiarlan: The Gnolls are always hungry for new slaves and fresh, screaming meat—indeed, they do not distinguish between the two!
      • Iosynne d'Phiarlan: And the Demons, Djinn and Efreet... these are little seen, but much feared.
      • Iosynne d'Phiarlan: If you would face such enemies, climb onto the caravan headed for the Broken Highway.
      • You: Where there is danger, there is also profit. I will guard your caravan. (Bestow quest)
      • Iosynne d'Phiarlan: Very good. Load your gear into my wagon—we depart soon!
    • You: What can I expect in Menechtarun?
      • Iosynne d'Phiarlan: The Menechtarun is an eternal battlefield for the Gnoll tribes, the Vulkoorim Scorrow, and the Demons who manipulate both races into working their will.
      • Iosynne d'Phiarlan: But there is an oasis of safety -- Zawabi's Refuge, where Zawabi the Elder Djinni was bound in times long forgotten. Within this island of peace, a small community of adventurers and magicians has formed. And that is our destination, for adventurers devour supplies like Gnolls devour their slaves!
      • Iosynne d'Phiarlan: The profits from the caravan crossing the Broken Highway will be great... assuming the Scorrow-priests don't seize our cargo, and the Demons don't catch wind of our approach.
      • You: Where there is danger, there is also profit. I will guard your caravan. (Bestow quest)
      • Iosynne d'Phiarlan: Very good. Load your gear into my wagon—we depart soon!

Talking to her after acquiring the quest, but before completion, will make she say:

  • Iosynne d'Phiarlan: Are you ready to depart?
  • Iosynne d'Phiarlan: I am impatient with these delays. The Vulkoorim will not grow less fearsome with time, nor the Gnolls less voracious, nor the Demons less cunning.
  • Iosynne d'Phiarlan: We will leave once you climb onto the caravan to the Broken Highway.

On completion of quest, she will ask for your report:

  • Iosynne d'Phiarlan: ????????????????

After completing the quest and taking the reward, if you talk to her again, she will also offer transportation:

  • Iosynne d'Phiarlan: <name>! It is good to see you again. We are loading the wagons with more supplies for Zawabi's Refuge, plus a few special items requested by the mages.
  • Iosynne d'Phiarlan: What in the world do they want an otyugh's spleen for? Do you know how far away our otyugh supplier lives? And what those spleens smell like when they arrive? Revolting!
  • Iosynne d'Phiarlan: In any case, if you would like to defend our next voyage, you would be quite welcome. Or, as I promised, you can ride with the passengers and relax. Of course you won't be paid that way!
    • You: I think I'll ride the wagons this time. (Transport)

Desert Caravan[edit]

She can be found near one of the two sets of shrines, hiding behind some rocks. If you talk to her while the attack is going on, she will randomly say one of those lines:

  • Iosynne d'Phiarlan: The enemy is all around us! Stay sharp!
  • Iosynne d'Phiarlan: Protect the wagons! They must not be destroyed!
  • Iosynne d'Phiarlan: Hold your ground! Do not lose hope!
  • Iosynne d'Phiarlan: We cannot advance until the enemy is slain!
  • Iosynne d'Phiarlan: Think not to surrender! The Vulkoorim do not take prisoners!

After you survive for ten minutes, you can talk to her again to finish the quest:

  • Iosynne d'Phiarlan: You fought like a devil, <name>! In the future, you will always be welcome among my caravaneers, even if you choose to ride rather than fight. Now, help me clean up the bodies and repair the damage to the wagons. We will discuss your reward when we reach the Menechtarun safely.
  • You: Let's get to work. The sooner these wagons are fixed, the sooner we reach the Menechtarun.

Zawabi's Refuge[edit]

At any time, you can talk to her to transport you to House Phiarlan:

  • Iosynne d'Phiarlan: Are you ready to return to Stormreach, <name>?
  • Iosynne d'Phiarlan: My empty wagons will travel quickly, and I expect no combat. You are more than welcome to ride along.
    • You: I'm ready. Let's get underway. (Transport)

If you are at level 8 or higher, however, she will reply:

  • Iosynne d'Phiarlan: hello, <class>. You're looking for work, aren't you?
  • Iosynne d'Phiarlan: No need to explain—I've got caravans crossing the Menechtarun Desert. And they'll need someone like you watching over them if they're going to survive the crossing.
    • You: I would like to sign up for the desert crossing. (See the previous section)
    • You: You misread me. I'm simply looking for passage back to Stormreach. (Transport)

Talking to her after acquiring the quest, but before completion, will make she say:

  • Iosynne d'Phiarlan: ????????????????

On completion of quest, she will ask for your report:

  • Iosynne d'Phiarlan: I am amazed that we survived the ambush on the Broken Highway, <name>.
  • Iosynne d'Phiarlan: I've driven off a starving Scorrow or two in my day, but the force that attacked us was almost an army! The vulkoorim have changed the balance of power in the Menechtarun, that's for certain.
  • Iosynne d'Phiarlan: But enough prattling—it is time you chose a reward for your stalwart service. You've more than earned it!
  • You: Perhaps we'll travel together in the future, Iosynne.

After completing the quest and taking the reward, if you talk to her again, she will also offer transportation:

  • Iosynne d'Phiarlan: <name>! It is good to see you again. We are loading the wagons for another trip across the desert.
  • Iosynne d'Phiarlan: I would be most grateful for your protection again.
    • You: I'm sorry, but I do not have the time right now. I'm simply looking for passage back to Stormreach. (Transport)
