Item talk:Macabre Heavy Pick

Location[edit]

Latest edits seem a bit contradicting. Is this item only available by turning in 40 Vistani Talismans or is it also available in end chests of various quests? (which would suggest mythic is also possible) Faltout (ContribsMessage) 06:55, March 13, 2018 (EDT)

  • Yeah, you're right. We should probably include a similar note like on Morninglord's Sceptre. Though Macabre stuff isn't available from Tobar IIRC. More information is also available here. Maybe this information could be moved to a separate page; partially transcluded back and linked from each item? Maybe this information would belong to an article about Tobar. Or create a page about Vistani Totem/ Talisman. Additionally, the Template:Vistani Totem could be expanded to add a popup with some more information. Or maybe craft a new template allowing something like Vistani|Totem|10 and Vistani|Talisman|20. Cru121 (ContribsMessage) 07:30, March 13, 2018 (EDT)
  • Also, Slarden claims that Macabre/Nightmothers gear only drops in the final 4 Ravenloft quests. This kinda matches my observations as well. I have added this to the wiki but had it rolled back (here), I still think this should be mentioned somewhere at least as a speculation. Cru121 (ContribsMessage) 07:34, March 13, 2018 (EDT)
    • What I see is this:
      1. The Named item template does not allow multiple drop locations but it should. Multiple drop locations could also mean different type of drops (turn-in, reward, chest).
      2. Item:Morninglord's Sceptre is BtC when using turn-in or acquired for free and BtA when found in chests. Either the template needs to be updated to allow different bind status per drop location (which I find a bit extreme and complicated), or there should be 2 item pages created: Item:Morninglord's Sceptre (BtC) and Item:Morninglord's Sceptre (BtA).
      3. Items using a turn-in mechanism have many inconsistencies. Anniversary Party items go to a category that is under "Shoemaker tests". Invader items go to "Invasion tokens" journal entry. Macabre items go to "Blue Water Inn" tavern. All over the place. And not only that, but then editors go ahead and transclude those categories to the relevant pages or add handwritten stuff in the categories to make them eligible for transclusion increasing the effort needed to tidy up the categories and pages. Turn-in items probably need their own categorization and parameter.
    • And that's about what I've observed from this page. Faltout (ContribsMessage) 09:25, March 13, 2018 (EDT)
      • Adding multiple drop locations is something that's on my todo list for the rebuild of {{Named Item}} and the accompanying gadget that will offer a form editor to make it easier for people to create or edit those pages. Currently it is done on pages by listing the main location as location (main location being the one the OP of the item page lists it as unless it can be determined there is a higher drop rate in another quest) and alternate locations in the appropriate |chest=, |turn in=, or |reward= parameter. I've always hated doing it this way, but the fix is complex and I don't feel it's worth doing except as part of the complete redo of the Item page system. There should most definitely not be multiple item pages created based on bind status. You can include both statuses on a single page with |bind={{ Bind | BtA }} from chest and {{ Bind | BtC }} otherwise.  👟 ShoeMaker (Contribs • Message) 👟 11:35, March 13, 2018 (EDT)
  • For an example of the above issues in action, see the latest edit. The item bind status is listed as BtA, and the drop location is now listed as Blue Water Inn for tuning in tokens. But if you obtain the item by turning in tokens two things happen: The item will be BtC, and the item will not be able to come with a Mythic (or Reaper) bonus. -- Niminae (ContribsMessage) 11:41, March 13, 2018 (EDT)
  • We could use Turn In as a editing possibility. Maybe add a possible to add links to turn in too. (JafryD)
