Item talk:Sun Blade

From DDO wiki
Jump to navigation Jump to search

As a named item (and a buggy one), this is the kind of thing that that is special enough to deserve it's own page. Items which are just a random grab-bag of enchantments aren't worth a page to themselves. At most, they need one row in a long table. 24.62

Wow, buggy is right. Should this be considered a slashing weapon or a piercing weapon, as far as categorization goes? It's weird that the display doesn't agree with the ability to apply weapon finesse bonuses. I wonder what the game considers the damage to be, as far as bonuses or penalties when attacking zombies or constructs? I'm inclined to put it in both damage categories until someone can prove which it is... Dedridd 07:41, February 14, 2006 (PST)
For categorization, the game labels it a "Short Sword", so put it there. In PnP, it was like a dagger- the player could choose whether it was piercing or slashing on each attack. But in DDO, that choice has been removed both for daggers and Sun Blade. The only things I can verify is that the details window and the combat log both say slashing damage, but Improved Critical: Slashing has no effect on it. Note that I'm only aware of constructs being specially vulnerable to bludgeon, not pierce/slash, and the effect on zombies is hard to notice when the Undead-Specific extra damage is ripping them up. 24.62
Short sword is a piercing weapon, which is why I asked. And my mistake about the constructs - I thought I had read their vulnerability was to pierce, and zombies were resistant to pierce. I'll categorize it as a short sword and piercing then. Thanks for the clarification. Dedridd 17:42, February 14, 2006 (PST)

This just dropped for me in a chest in chronoscope, thought the drop places should be updated.

Its possible to loot this in ANY chest in the game. its just marked as Garamols chest because of its extreamly high drop rate (compared to random chests) Yawgmoth 22:09, March 23, 2011 (EDT)

Ssword or Bsword?[edit]

(11/09/17) Arkat here...

I've tested this weapon extensively. As the flavor text says, it's a Bastard Sword that's as easy to use as a Short Sword. The weapon looks like a Bastard Sword (size-wise) and it does a d10 damage like a Bastard Sword. Additionally, it ONLY does slashing damage. I tested on a training dummy and the Combat Log confirms only Slashing damage is done. It is true that for the purposes of feats and Ninja Spy enhancements it's treated as a shortsword (piercing weapon) but it's also treated as a slashing weapon, feat-wise.

Despite what it says at the top of the weapon description, it is indeed a Bastard Sword. I suspect it says Short Sword, instead, in order to save confusion that might result and thus perhaps forcing some people to needlessly take the Exotic Weapon Proficiency feat you would normally take for a Bastard Sword.

Finally, Sunblades also produce Glancing Blow damage just like Bastard Swords do.(11/09/17)

  • There is no "despite what it says at the top"... What it says at the top is what it is. Anything additional, is just that, additional. So, it's a Shortsword that acts like a Bastard Sword. Not the flavor text, graphic, damage type, weapon die, or anything else changes the fact that it is typed explicitly as a shortsword. As such, I've rolled back most of the edits since my edit this morning except for the fact that it does do glancing blow damage.  👟 ShoeMaker (Contribs • Message) 👟 18:58, November 9, 2017 (EST)
