If you try to talk to him while at level 3[UnverifiedIcon tooltip.png"3" has not been verified in-game. Please verify it!] or lower, he will reply:

  • Karnat Thaar: ????????????????

If you are at level 4 or higher, however, he will reply:

  • Karnat Thaar: Watch where you stand, you pink-hearted cringer! Do you think I want my view blocked by your coward's carcass?
  • Karnat Thaar: I need nobody's help, especially not from a puling, pustulent <race> like yourself!
    • You: Hold your tongue, you filthy kobold-brained nuisance, or I will rip it out of your mouth and stuff it down your trousers!
      • Karnat Thaar: What? How? You... you have spirit. Why, you might almost be worthy to serve me in battle!
      • Karnat Thaar: I give you this challenge, <race> -- descend into the sewers where the Arzag-Khor crouch in their pathetic weakness. Destroy their warriors and lay their leaders low! Should you also have the cunning for it, find and assemble the shattered pieces of the Tear of Dhakaan.
      • Karnat Thaar: Do you have the stomach to enter the Arzag-Khor sewers?
        • You: Do you doubt it? I will lay waste to the Arzag-Khor! (Bestow quest)
        • You: Who are you, that I should serve you?
          • Karnat Thaar: I am a scion of the line of Thaar, the legendary war-masters of the Kech Volaar!
          • Karnat Thaar: The destiny of our tribe is to restore the Empire of Dhakaan to its forgotten glory. We Kech Volaar are not as many as the ancient Dhakaani, but we are powerful and fearless. Through our strength, the Empire will be reborn!
          • Karnat Thaar: Now, have your the brass tusks to enter the Arzag-Khor Sewers, lay waste to our enemies, and reassmble the Tear of Dhakaan?
        • You: What is this Tear of Dhakaan?
          • Karnat Thaar: The artifacts of the Empire are coveted by all Hobgoblins. As our tribes have scattered, so have the symbols of Dhakaan. By claiming these sacred relics as our own, the Kech Volaar will prove their worthiness to forge the hobgoblin tribes into an invincible whole. I have traveled the breadth of Eberron in search of these relics. Now, at last, the Tear of Dhakaan is within my grasp!
          • Karnat Thaar: Now, have your the brass tusks to enter the Arzag-Khor Sewers, lay waste to our enemies, and reassmble the Tear of Dhakaan?
    • You: Oh, I'm sorry. I'll stand somewhere else.
      • Karnat Thaar: That's right, run along!
      • Karnat Thaar: Tell your friends that your courage fled and your bowels relaxed at the mere sight of Karnat Thaar!
    • You: How rude! I demand an apology!
      • Karnat Thaar: An apology?!?
      • Karnat Thaar: I apologize for not ending your wretched life at first glance! I would not wish such a pathetic, drooling existence on my most hated enemy!

Talking to him after acquiring the quest, but before completion, will make he say:

  • Karnat Thaar: has your courage fled already? Do not disappoint me, <name>. I have found few in this wretched city who are worthy of fighting in the name of the Kech Volaar.
  • Karnat Thaar: Enter the Arzag-Khor Sewers and prove that you have the heart of a Hobgoblin!

On completion of quest, he will congratulate you with the following:

  • Karnat Thaar: The blood of the Arzag-Khor will taint the sewers for weeks! The wailing and weeping of the tribe's survivors has already confirmed your victory. You have earned a fair reward, as well as the friendship of the line of Thaar. Never underestimate the value of such a gift!

After completing the quest and taking the reward, if you talk to him again, he will reply:

  • Karnat Thaar: The Kech Volaar call few outsiders "friend," but your spirit is as great as any Hobgoblin's.
  • Karnat Thaar: I salute you, <name>. You are always welcome in the halls of our reborn Empire!
