Half-Elf Dilletante: Ranger[edit]

at what point is the character able to use the cure light wounds wand (or scroll) at 100%? I am not sure if it means Ranger level 2 or Caster level 2, when discussing the Cure Light Wounds spell. If it is caster level 2 then the Ranger level would need to be 8? I noticed in the description for the Cleric dilletante that it specifies Cleric caster level 2 and Cleric level 3. Being known as a 2nd level Ranger is rather worthless, as you can't cast any spells till level 4. Is this correct? So, when trying to use a wand you can really only use wands of Ranger level 1, period. If you have Improved Ranger Dilettante III: then you are a Ranger level 4 and Ranger caster level 1? I suppose that is the trade off for having the ranged bonus, vs. being cleric dilletante. Please confirm, thanks. ;>jamvaru (ContributionsMessage) 18:03, October 31, 2012 (EDT)
You might be confunding scrolls and wands mechanics. Basically, if a spell is in your spell list, you can use a wand with this spell as soon as you get to the minimum level of the wand. So, having a single ranger level (or using the ranger dilletante feat) allow you to use Cure Light wands by level 1, Cure Moderate wands by level 3, and Cure Serious wands by level 5, even if they can only cast the spell themselves at level 11. U35 Enhancement Changes[edit]

This page needs some love to bring it up to date with the U35 changes. The release notes stated:

Half-elf
Improved Dilettante has had its cost reduced to 1 AP.
Dilettantes now have the following benefits in addition to what they already do, unless indicated:
       Artificer: +30 Spell Points
Barbarian: +10 (instead of +5) Hit Points
       Bard: +30 Spell Points
       Cleric: +30 Spell Points
       Druid: +30 Spell Points
       Favored Soul: +30 Spell Points
       Fighter: +1 to hit
       Monk: Removed the Centered requirement
       Sorcerer: +30 Spell Points
       Wizard: +30 Spell Points
           Half-elf Dilettante Tier 2:
Spellcasting: Increased Spell Power to +5.
Fixed base damage of Sly Flourish to +1[W].
           Half-elf Dilettante Tier 4:
               Barbarian: +10 Hit Points
Spellcasting: Spell Power has been increased to +5
Rogue: Cooldown is now 30 seconds. The Saving Throw has been updated to properly reflect full character level, and the Bomb DC boost has had scaling added.
Diplomatic Immunity now lasts for 60 seconds, or until you attack, and now has a 120 second cooldown.

However, it is difficult to tell which level of Dilettante they were referring to. For example the Barbarian Dilettante feat does not currently grant +5 HP, so how is +10 HP "instead" of +5 HP? The Half-Elven racial Tier 1 Enhancement Improved Dilettante: Barbarian did grant +5 HP, so it seems as though the entire list above should have referenced Improved Dilettante and not simply "Dilettantes". Or used better indention to make it clear that this was not a separate line item as they did for the Tier 2 Dilettante Special Ability that they simply refer to as "Half-elf Dilettante Tier 2."

I'll make the easy change of the AP cost from 2 to 1 for Improved Dilettante and will hold off on other changes until I see some feedback from people who might have recently played a Half-Elf. --Niminae (ContribsMessage) 09:10, August 21, 2017 (EDT)

  • Ok, I've checked against live and the T1, T2, and T4 Enhancements all called Improved Dilettante cost 1 AP each. The T3 Dilettante Ability Score and the two column 3 secondary Dilettante options all cost 2 AP each. Updated. --Niminae (ContribsMessage) 17:52, August 21, 2017 (EDT)
