Talk:Quests by level and XP

From DDO wiki
Jump to navigation Jump to search

Would it be possible for the sorting table to preserve secondary sorts? I'm used to tables where clicking "xp" then "level" will show quests ordered by level, ties broken by xp. Here, doing so just orders by level and the xp amounts jump around. 10.183.250.133 03:55, August 29, 2012 (EDT)

Hello, I happen to like to Quests by level that was already in play before. Running the Hardcore server I'm pulling up everything for a certain level, order by xp or favor, and work away at the list while in game. Can we put that back the way it was, please? meander (ContribsMessage) 00:40, September 27, 2019 (EDT)

perhaps this is what you need? Faltout (ContribsMessage) 10:34, September 27, 2019 (EDT)

  • Yup, that's the one. Very useful. Moving it back to the page because I use it more than anything else here, and I gotta believe others do too. meander (ContribsMessage) 11:41, September 27, 2019 (EDT)
  • That banner ribbon is way too long and should go away. We can use the block one instead.  👟 ShoeMaker (Contribs • Message) 👟 17:45, September 30, 2019 (EDT)

  • I see what you did, and why it is important to you to have it viewable on a small device, but it is not working. I can't pull up quests of a certain level with it. meander (ContribsMessage) 19:06, September 30, 2019 (EDT)
    • Both tables have the same size in a mobile device with the simple table being in a more prominent position. You also broke all the pages you touched. I'm not going to be the one to run behind your edits and correct them since the administration apparently doesn't care whether you break the wiki or not. Faltout (ContribsMessage) 08:16, October 1, 2019 (EDT)
      • I care that a tool I use all the time is not working. It just takes a little time for the communication lines to connect. See? Already Cru121 has restored the faith. =) meander (ContribsMessage) 17:03, October 1, 2019 (EDT)
    • Whatever you did in the past couple of days borked the level filter (and why is it now in the lower left corner?). Clicking on a level when it was across the top would filter the list, now it does nothing. Christopher G Lewis (ContribsMessage) 08:42, October 1, 2019 (EDT)
  • That's not how I see it on my screen (the banner), but if you have fixed the sidebar to pull up quests of a single level, I am good. It's like you rearranged my primary hotbar. In time, I will stop growling at the location and just use it reflexively. Old dog, new tricks, you know how it is. Also, the level 20 Heroic/Epic quest page was working, so just restore what worked? It's weirdly situated at the interface between heroic and epic, so seems like a one-time problem. Use what worked and call it good enough? meander (ContribsMessage) 17:40, October 2, 2019 (EDT)
    • I'll get Level 20 fixed up. It was broken when I looked at it on stream for some reason, but I wasn't awake enough to figure it out and wanted to start work on the Named Item template to allow multiple locations. One of the extra benefits of the sidebar block is it is static in that location on the screen, so as you scroll up and down the page, it stays put.  👟 ShoeMaker (Contribs • Message) 👟 17:46, October 2, 2019 (EDT)
  • Shoe, That discord pol link goes nowhere for me. The discord link on the social media page is not working either. Either way, I'd like point out that from a UI standpoint, the level nav tool in the sidebar is different from any other page in the Wiki. I'm not completely opposed to it, but it would be good if it was more visible (back color maybe?). The nav across the top worked well and was very UI consistent. My challenge is that when I view the wiki on my phone I (like others) zoom in to just the content pane. This makes the site more readable on a small screen, but hides the sidebar. If you ever do work to make the site more mobile friendly (Making the sidebar a fly-out menu) this UI element will need to be addressed. (btw - setting the mw_panel visibility:hidden and mw_body margin:0 makes the site infinitely more usable on small devices. I've got no wiki-fu so this would be *way* beyond my skills) — previous unsignedIcon tooltip.pngPlease sign posts using ~~~~ comment by Christopher G Lewis ( c |d| r| b) at 11:34, October 5, 2019 (UTC)
    • We also have {{Top}} which that block is based on (I don't know if the two get along currently, I could probably get rid of top and add it directly to the Page Toolbox for every page if there's an issue). I don't see the sidebar flying in and out something on the todo list currently, I could consider it after a dark theme is available. That Discord link would only work if you're already in the server, DDOwiki on Discord.  👟 ShoeMaker (Contribs • Message) 👟 10:20, October 7, 2019 (EDT)

Data Source?[edit]

What is the data source? This page is refreshed programmatically, but where from? I'd like to export this data and create a simple app to track favor progress and plan for the hardcore server — previous unsignedIcon tooltip.pngPlease sign posts using ~~~~ comment by 93.236.126.243 (d| r| b) at 14:02, August 7, 2020 (UTC)

  • It performs a database query (using the DPL extension). It gets the pages in level categories (ex. Category:Level 1 quests). However, this is not enough to get the favor progress you would want. You need to also exclude any historic quests you get and exclude any lamannia quests (as you can see this page doesn't exclude). After getting the quest list, you need to make sure the pages you got are using the quest template. Then parse the quest template to get the quest information: |name= will hold the actual name of the quest (which may not be the same as the title). |level= or |epic= will have the heroic or epic level of the quest. |favor= will have the base favor of that quest (multiply by 3 to get elite). |solo only= means that you should not multiply the favor by 3. |shares favor= will have the title of the quest page that shares the favor with this quest page (make sure you don't count the favor for inferno of the damned twice). "Quest/testcase2" ?[edit]

What is this "Quest/testcase2" thing in this list ? Alrik (ContribsMessage) 05:48, March 11, 2021 (EST)

Favor list broken ?[edit]

I don't understand the favor list here. The values are far too small. Cavern Of Corromar gives me in-game 15 Favor Points on Elite difficulty, yet this table lists only a much smaller number (normal difficulty ?). This way I just dcan't pick quests which give most favor (Coin Lords & Kundarak, especially). Alrik (ContribsMessage) 13:59, June 2, 2021 (EDT)

Quest Length ?[edit]

Hello, I'm longing for a table listing quests by length (long, medium, short) ... Is that possible ? Or too much work ? Alrik (ContribsMessage)

  • It's not too much work. Unfortunately, the templates for this page are locked. Have you tried the individual level pages though? I think they are more useful than this main page: Level 1 quests. The navigation box is at the bottom left of your screen (a location that is not noticeable by most as argued in this talk page). Faltout (ContribsMessage) 03:44, July 14, 2021 (EDT)
  • I thought they were locked. Turns out I was misremembering. I'll add the duration to this table. Faltout (ContribsMessage) 03:44, July 14, 2021 (EDT)

Table Semantics[edit]

I believe that today Zilgabex had a query as to whether it was possible the tables for the Page (Quests by level and XP) could be better structured, and far more logical. For example, Heroic showing only Heroic XP. Because the horizontal rule and the Epic values are adding unnecessary cell division, etc. It's not really clearly presenting XP information in the best way either. It's poor TABLE structure on several levels. Regardless of any potential copy-and-paste issues. See: https://www.w3.org/WAI/tutorials/tables/ Dywypi (ContribsMessage) 16:12, December 10, 2023 (EST)

  • I did. I believe that a "Data View" would be sufficient for export and analysis, the current "Web View" as it is now is fine and really requires no further editing. — previous unsignedPlease sign posts using ~~~~ comment by Zilgabex ( c |d| r| b) at 14:43, December 11, 2023 (UTC)
  • Ah, I see. In that case we probably need to make some sort of change to Template:Quests by DPL as that's what's generating the lists. I believe that's one of Tech's templates, so contacting him on Discord is probably the best option. PurpleSerpent (ContribsMessage) 12:59, December 11, 2023 (EST)
  • I don't know about the template, but the table structure is poor and those horizontal rules are being misused. It's supposed to be a data table.
All three tables are semantically poor. There is no real reason for there to be Epic XP values within a Heroic only table. Neither is there any reason to have Heroic values with the Epic only Table. Legendary is lacking either Heroic or Epic XP. The XP cannot be sorted for the alternative value either. Because the TABLE was never designed logically in the first place, the horizontal rules are just meaningless nonsense. If for some weird reason both XP values were needed in one TABLE then they should be explicitly labelled, and grouped, etc.
