Q&A[edit]

Got this warning when I was Previewing the update I was making to the bard spells Warning: This page is 33 kilobytes long; some browsers may have problems editing pages approaching or longer than 32kb. Please consider breaking the page into smaller sections. Should I ignore or break the page up? Bladedge 15:31, September 25, 2011 (EDT)

I would ignore it for now.. There are a few pages that go way over that.. I don't worry much about it until it gets to 50kb. Some pages are even larger than that.. ShoeMaker 11:24, September 27, 2011 (EDT)
Is there any way to hide/ collapse lines of texts (not a table) from view until the reader decides to select "show" to view it it? Bladedge 17:29, October 27, 2011 (EDT)

As far as I know, the closest thing to that is a popup.. You have many options for popups:

I hope this helps with what you are looking for Big GrinShoeMaker 17:54, October 27, 2011 (EDT)

Bags[edit]

Hi, do you really think removing all of the stand-alone bag pages and redirecting to Bags page is a step in good direction? I think the right thing to do would be the exact opposite. Remove the details on the bags from the Bags page and only leave general details about the type of the bag, comparison table with info like bag slots, max items etc. like the one that's at the top of the page, but split between the bag type categories. As it is, the page is already long and has a lot of unnecessary info. If there should be any more bags/bag types added, or someone should add more info on existing bags or screenshots, it'd grow even longer. I think the stand-alone pages are the place where info about source NPCs or DDO Store cost and all the fluff text should be, not a page about Bags in general. → Gorocz (ContributionsMessage) 11:25, July 5, 2013 (EDT)

(1) Yep. (2)nope. consistency. easier to update one page then multiple. dont have to deal with one item has a page and one doesn't. find and compare in one spot. (3)It was easier to have them all on one page while updating & cleaning it up at the time. (and most of the info was already present). Split into the 5 types of bag types, and transclude it the bags page, Iam still debating it. (4)What unnecessary info? I can currently think of 2 atm. Bladedge (Contributions⇑ top ⇑)

ad (2)/(4) Well, that's why I'd leave only tables in the general Bags page, to make the comparison easier. With all the fluff text around, for example what NPCs give the Tiny Ingredients Bag out what vendors sell the Soul Bags... basically all the little notes. I was thinking something like this, which is much clearer and easily viewed. The links would then go to the stand-alone pages for the bags, which would have all the info about the bags themselves. If someone searches for one exact bag, he wants info on that one bag. Then that page can link to the comparison page. If someone searched for "Ingredients Bag" for example, then he should be redirected to something like this. Just my two cents. I'm relatively new here, don't want to make waves, this is just how would it look nicer to me... Smile

Categorization[edit]

Hi, you have recently created Category:Roar items and Category:Immunity to Fear items with the content . Is that a mistake, should the proper category be ? --Cru121 (ContributionsMessage) 07:41, December 11, 2013 (EST)

Protected template[edit]

If you want to unlock Template:Named_Jewelry for now, I can at least wrap the category tags

Template:Named_Jewelry Should be unlock till Jan 1st let me know if it didnt.
Bladedge (ContributionsMessage) 22:22, December 24, 2013 (EST)|}}
It still gives me "You do not have permission to edit this page, for the following reason: This page has been protected to prevent editing or other actions."
I would just like to state again that the more protected pages exist on a wiki, the less editors are likely to contribute.
The modification that needs to be made to Template:Named_Jewelry is as follows
needs to change to
Joenuts (ContributionsMessage) 14:06, December 25, 2013 (EST)

Potion category change[edit]

I do agree with wrapping category definition on the Category:Potions page so that category does not get included by transclusion, but do not think it should have been removed from Items parent.
Categories in the main line Items group should match AH as close as possible, and have only one logical destination for each item in the game.
I believe Potions should live first and foremost under the Items parent ( main line ). It should also be added to the Consumable items category, which is under the "Item groups" main line.

Item Display templates[edit]

Bladedge, I'd like to address each of your concerns and explain my position.
I believe that :
1) If an item exists in the game and can be placed in inventory, there should be a matching page in the item namespace to document that item.
2) All pages in the item namespace should have a common look and feel.

I feel that if the the item namespace pages are standardized that it will go a long way to make the wiki easier to edit / maintain which will encourage even casual editors to keep the wiki up to date.

About the component pages, I created new pages to be able to easily compare the new page to existing page to make sure nothing got lost in the transition. I hadn't considered complications of keeping history of page. I agree that page history is important, I'll work on deleting Item: page I created, and moving / updating the existing page.

When you say they are not "attractive looking", I made the look as close as possible to other pages in the Item namespace. Do you think all pages in the item namespace are not attractive looking, or just the new ammunition and component pages?

When you say "Template ... is easy broken ... ", can you give me a specific example? I'm of the opinion that if someone "breaks" a page ( misspells a parameter name or value ), then it should be easy enough for anyone to "fix" the page.

On a side note: The purpose of refactoring the display templates is to make category injection much more smooth, allow for injection of categories like chest locations, quest chain and series rewards, [ vendor ] purchasable items, etc.
Joenuts (ContributionsMessage) 12:06, January 2, 2014 (EST)
Bladedge,
Component pages have been moved to User:Joenuts namespace to make room for incoming page moves. I dont have access to delete pages, so if you could please delete pages that were created, and move corresponding component pages in to the item namespace.
Also, I made some errors in the redirects and created some additional pages in item namespace that need to be deleted. See Category:Flagged for deletion.

Lore Legacy[edit]

Concerning the broken spellore calls I passed through, I just made the pages reference a template that wasnt broken.
If you need to determine which items still need to be updated with current details, you can go to the "what links here" link on the Template:Lore, https://ddowiki.com/page/Special:WhatLinksHere/Template:Lore
In the meantime, I've been working on cleaning up broken links, inconsistencies and broken category injection.
Concerning the Iconic starter gear, half was getting put in to "Advance to level 15 reward items" and half was getting put in to "Advance to level 15 loot". Are you proposing that there is a difference between the starter named clothing and the starter named jewelry that the jewelry belongs in "Advance to level 15 loot" category, while the clothing belongs in "Advance to level 15 rewards" category?
If so, than my understanding of your proposed category pages are unclear. You may need to clarify what the difference is.
Joenuts (ContributionsMessage) 16:13, January 3, 2014 (EST)

old format 6 = new format Sonic

The 1st half of Iconic gear boots gloves belts cloaks bracers just had a update pass didnt reach the others items yet. Use the page history to see what was added if it has Bladedge, Cru121, and some cases Beackly those are more then correct. Also you have to look for other related items and related item mutations in general to see how they should be updated. We know Superior Sonic lore no longer exists any where in game except on 2 items and been replace. Have to play historien and bookkeeper. I have an excel sheet and notes on item changes and mutations, relations, also have some ingame players to asssit if needed. Bladedge (Contributions⇑ top ⇑) 16:30, January 3, 2014 (EST)

Got it, I can work on transitioning all calls to spelllore template to use updated parameter order, I will also tag the pages as needing to have an image update.
As for the iconic starter gear updates, I'm not sure exactly what you believe I did that was incorrect. All I did was remove the chest value so that the 'Advance to level 15 loot' category would not get injected, and added the 'reward = true' option so that 'Advance to level 15 reward items' category WOULD get injected.
I did this to match the other iconic starter gear ( for example Item:Oathring ). Are you saying that the starter gear needs to be split in to two categories ( some in loot, some in rewards ), or that they should be all in one category, but I picked the wrong one, and they should all go to "...loot"?

Crafting page[edit]

Hello Bladedge,

Why did you revert the crafting page back to its previous edit ?

Agonshar (ContributionsMessage) 08:25, May 21, 2014 (EDT)

Returned page back to clarified version, reasoning stated on chage log. I waited for your reply but none given - this version is nice and bright and attractive to users - never mind us editors :o). Its definately a step in the right direction with separately edited sections too.

Agonshar (ContributionsMessage) 21:30, May 22, 2014 (EDT)

I prefer not to answer right away as they always end in a bad way. As for the layout and presentation have to disagree. Unfortunately I didnt see a sandbox version. I pass both versions around to non wiki editors and players of ddo, they prefer the way it was before the changes then what it is now. I reverted the layout but kept the text. I wont start an edit war (I could and lock the page) so Ill pass it along to Tech13 Bladedge (Contributions⇑ top ⇑) 21:50, May 22, 2014 (EDT)

I agree with you Bladedge, no edit war required at all. Our reasoning is the same just with different outcomes, I'll also await Tech13.

Thanks.

Agonshar (ContributionsMessage) 06:45, May 23, 2014 (EDT)

 • LOL That is hilarious. Agonshar actually came to me first via email and I suggested he ask you about it and discuss it with you on your talk page. I really don't care much either way how it looks, as long as everyone is okay with it. ShoeMaker (Contributions Message) 10:19, May 23, 2014 (EDT)

My reasoning is thus:

I believe that with multiple servers and a player base in the thousands we as a team must obviously make the right choices for combining two key elements when displaying material; in ways which is both easy to understand for all levels of experience and a way in which its easy for all editors to amend easily. Bladedge what you say is correct in most aspects but we should be united in our goal to accomodate a much wider community then a circle of players that might only amount to 50 on one particular server, your methods are correct and I use them too on occasion, albeit I did not sandbox this one initially.

That all being said I have been corrected multiple times for not separating sections into editable chunks; this should be necessary with all large pages as this one is and not be one giant edit, just makes for hard work. Plus the page was very old and faded and needed some attention, the sections were coded wrong, each sections headers were not all linking to pages, dates were in-consistent across sections, color scheme was jumbled up, Each section needed updating according to new game content, each section was brought into line meaning that each had a similar format to it but had individual content.

As you can see all of the points I raise for the initial editing of this page are entirely positive and thats all I'm here for, to enhance, to expand, to help, I'm hoping we can find mutual ground to agree on, er - although i do agree with a lot ( not all :P ) of what you say.

Regards,

Agonshar (ContributionsMessage) 10:53, May 23, 2014 (EDT)

 • Dont worry about I still got my other changes thru. I usually save my work in a txt pad or have a second copy of the page open to c&p before I save in case the wiki acts up or something happens. My own personal rule is avoid the page that being edit or could be edit in case the other editer may still be working on it for a while, but thats just me. Your project on item template[edit]

Good day Bladedge,
I saw your sandboxes related to a new item page template. Two years ago I had the idea to create a templete for quest items which was abandoned because of other issues. But I still have some code fragments which mainly incorporate this guide lines:

 • get rid of the "one table" for data and pictures; done by using two floating "div"
 • may use "unlimited" pictures; there was a plan to use a for each loop in the right section. Currently left is the idea of collapable tables around the pictures
 • get rid of the over coloring (my impression); Only horizontal and vertical headers have colored background.
 • a strict separation of the code in 3 sections: analyse data - display - categorization

Here is the start of the display section; maybe you find some ideas appraising:
