For real?[edit]

[moved from DDO_wiki_talk:Ddowikivip]

Do I really have to play 84 more Captcha games before you all are convinced I'm a human? It's easier than that to get a passport. :( Hoopy Frood (ContributionsMessage) 16:52, July 21, 2015 (EDT)

Okay, 83 now. Hoopy Frood (ContributionsMessage) 16:53, July 21, 2015 (EDT)
82... Hoopy Frood (ContributionsMessage) 16:53, July 21, 2015 (EDT)
  • Not specifically, but your account is too new and doesn't yet have enough edits nor do you seem to have a medical condition or be a well known entity elsewhere. Put in a pull request for user group changes which was merged the other night but hasn't gone live yet that will actually make use of autoconfirmed and is currently set to 50 edits and 7 days. May lower that to 25 or even 20 edits, but not there yet. ShoeMaker (Contributions Message) 17:07, July 21, 2015 (EDT)
The auto threshold is 50 now? Cool. Just 12 more to go. I've actually been a regular contributor to several wikis, but probably none that you've heard of. (I make only occasional edits on Wikipedia.) And I don't have any relevant medical conditions. But I'm definitely a human, I promise. Well, at the moment I'm a warforged, but you know what I mean. Hoopy Frood (ContributionsMessage) 11:38, August 5, 2015 (EDT)

Split personality[edit]

It appears I managed to create two copies of myself, this and User:Hoopy_Froodle. Is there a way to merge them? I actually like the name Hoopy Froodle better, although this identity has more contribution credits that I wouldn't want to lose. Hoopy Frood (Contribs⇑ top ⇑) 17:25, June 2, 2016 (EDT)

Hi! I have a question, how come you have such a weird name? Titan201419 (ContribsMessage) 08:54, June 3, 2016 (EDT)

Requests for Page Deletion[edit]

Good day Hoopy Froodle! I see you have requested some pages for deleting with an edit summary of DELETE. While that will work for most admins, the proper way is to simply put the {{Instantdelete}} template someplace on the page (blanking is optional) and put "Author Requested" in the edit summary. ShoeMaker (Contribs • Message) 07:53, October 4, 2016 (EDT)

Completionist Credit[edit]

Remember when you wrote up that bit about how class ties are resolved when counting toward Completionist? Would you still stand by what you wrote? I want to build a 10/10 Barbarian/Rogue and have it count for Barbarian, which it would if your description is correct. Hoopy Froodle (ContribsMessage) 23:40, October 17, 2016 (EDT)

Yep, as far as I know that's still how it works (with the addition of Warlock at the end of the list). Mind, that doesn't ABSOLUTELY mean it's correct, but if things had changed I'm sure somebody would've noted it! -LrdSlvrhnd (ContribsMessage) 23:46, October 17, 2016 (EDT)
Cool, thanks. Hoopy Froodle (Contribs⇑ top ⇑) 23:51, October 17, 2016 (EDT)
Actually, according to Past_Life_Feats#Dominant_class, Warlock takes precedence over Druid. Weird. But still, barb > rogue, so you're all good! -LrdSlvrhnd (ContribsMessage) 23:54, October 17, 2016 (EDT)
Aha! Hadn't noticed that section. Thanks again. Hoopy Froodle (Contribs⇑ top ⇑) 23:58, October 17, 2016 (EDT)

Transclusion of large articles[edit]

Hi, I noticed you transcluded some articles about traits to some categories of monsters with those traits. Generally, large articles are not meant to be transcluded for several reasons:

  1. Usually an article is too big to fit into another article.
  2. Article contents are subject to categorization and maintenance that probably does not apply to all the articles they were transcluded into.

I understand that you probably got the idea of article transclusion from other places in this wiki. However, it causes problems and we should try to minimize transclusion when the above points apply. I believe the traits could have been left as a link at the monster category pages, but if you absolutely must use transclusion make sure that you do not transclude any categorization the page may have. Use <noinclude></noinclude> tags around the categorization of the page you are about to transclude. Not doing so will add the page's categories to the category and the category will add the page's categories as a parent category to all the pages in the category. So you end up with a monster like Reaper being under the category C:Conditions (which I just fixed). Thanks :) Faltout (ContribsMessage) 06:28, April 20, 2018 (EDT)

Faltout Thanks for the tips. I suppose transclusion is a matter of style. I personally abhor duplication as a maintenance nightmare, and so prefer to reuse content where possible. I got the idea of transcluding category descriptions from another wiki I used to work on, although I notice it's not SOP on Wikipedia. I'll go back and change those -- maybe adopt {{Wikipedia:Cat main}}.
I'm aware of the category issue, but simply got lazy. I'll go back and fix those, too. Cheers. Hoopy Froodle (Contribs⇑ top ⇑) 10:24, April 20, 2018 (EDT)
  • Transclusion is fine IMHO as long as you make sure that the page with the content being transcluded has any categories marked as <noinclude>...</noinclude> so that other pages aren't miscategorized.  👟 ShoeMaker (Contribs • Message) 👟 12:50, April 20, 2018 (EDT)
I changed the categories I edited to use {{Category main}}. It was easier than editing all the transcluded pages. ;) Hoopy Froodle (Contribs⇑ top ⇑) 15:15, April 20, 2018 (EDT)

Edit stutters[edit]

U:Cru121 or whoever: Often when I save a change, it saves it twice. Most of the time this doesn't matter, but if I add a topic to a talk page, it adds it twice, or if I sign a comment, it gives me a "content has changed" error message on the second attempt. Any idea why it might be doing this? Hoopy Froodle (Contribs⇑ top ⇑) 16:31, July 22, 2019 (EDT)

How have you been?[edit]

Hey there! Looks like you haven't been on the wiki since 17:30, February 25, 2021 (Update 48.4). That was a couple years ago. I've recently started working on a major collectables page/template system overhaul and have noticed you were doing the same a couple years ago. Just a heads up that I've commented out of your user pages related to the matter. I think you'll enjoy the results of the work I've been doing on the system based on what research you appear to have been doing. If you wouldn't mind going through your sandboxes and blanking/deleting the ones you no longer need and commenting out the ones you'd like to keep (as far as template calls and categorizations go), I'd really appreciate that. Feel free to poke me on our Discord chat server if you have any live chat questions. I'll add this page to my watchlist for a bit and maybe attempt to email you if I haven't heard back from you in a bit longer. I hope you're doing well!  👟 ShoeMaker ( Talk • Contribs • Patrol • Moves • B • D • I • PP • UM • UR ) 👟 11:08, February 26, 2023 (EST)
