Categorization[edit]

I understand that this quest should not show up in all of the same categories as normal quests but which ones should it show up in and which ones should it not? For example, taking it out of the level 1 quest category put it into the unknown level category. Is this better? I'm not sure. Taking it out of the free-to-play category to put it in the pay-to-play category is probably worse. I'm not sure what the zone_quest parameter does and I'm not sure why changing the bestower matters especially when it is specifically Sigmund Bauerson that bestows this quest. I strongly agree with the changes to solo only and duration though and will change all similar quests to match this. Kkoliver (ContribsMessage) 15:17, January 16, 2018 (EST)

  • Taking it out of the level 1 quest category makes it not appear in Category:Compendium:Level 1 quests and Category:Level 1 quests. Putting it into pay to play category is probably worse yeah. However, I didn't try to do it. It's the default for any quest that doesn't have a "yes" or "true" in |free=, which means that the Quest template probably doesn't belong in this page (as I said here Template talk:Quest#Bestower). I think those kind of quests belong to their separate category (something like "Area quests") along with all the quests that get bestowed on you when some criteria are met. Like risia ice games, this quest, Eveningstar quests that tell you to see what the challenges are all about, gianthold quest that pops up as soon as you become level 13-14 and tells you "A ... form scans the marketplace for heroes to explore gianthold" or the wheloon quest that pops up when you become lvl 16 and tells you "new adventures await you at the prison city of wheloon". Those obviously have no place in quest tables that list quests by category.
I'm not yet sure how to organize them and what information would be worth noting. Perhaps the character creation quests need the xp value, perhaps character creation quests are again a separate category. I haven't thought about it all the way and that's why I'll hold off editing any other such quests. Faltout (ContribsMessage)
    • I'd certain suggest bringing it up no our Discord chat server and figuring out what is appropriate. If they are, in fact, quests, then they should be using the Quest template. If not, then it's irrelevant which template they use - possibly {{Task}}. I'm under the impression that they are "DM quests" that are intended to teach about how a certain aspect of questing works. Might not hurt to even have a discussion on the DDO:AN in the appropriate subsection to discuss it.  👟 ShoeMaker (Contribs • Message) 👟 15:59, January 16, 2018 (EST)

New template[edit]

So, I have a new template in the works that aims to cover at least all the journal entries that are not actual quests (quests have a dungeon, patrons, bestower, level, etc.). I'm also aiming for it to cover more than just journal entries, like seasonal events that exist on your objective panel when you're in a public area, but I need to find an appropriate name for it and check to see if it can cover the needs and categories of those "quests".
I've done some work here: User:Faltout/SandBox/Journal_entry and User:Faltout/SandBox/Journal_entry_InfoBox. I've also applied those templates to this page's sandbox. Please check it out and comment. Is this enough and appropriate or should it contain more information? Thanks.
P.S. The template is not finalized yet and is missing the categorization. That's because I didn't want test pages to appear in new and existing categories. Faltout (ContribsMessage) 10:38, March 6, 2018 (EST)

  • I really like this template update for journal entries. Would this include the saga journal entries? What about the slayer/explorer/rare encounter objectives? Kkoliver (ContribsMessage) 19:02, March 7, 2018 (EST)
    • Well, sagas have their own thing (they have a {{SagaInfoBox}}) and slayer/explorer/rare objectives are all listed under the explorer areas. I don't see a need for those to be included in this template. 2 things I would change in sagas is give them their own template (that uses the InfoBox) and add them to the appropriate Journal Entry categories.
Since you like it, I guess I will add categories to the template, copy it to a public space and start updating journal entries with it :) Faltout (ContribsMessage) 02:35, March 8, 2018 (EST)
