The Unassigned

From DDO wiki
Jump to navigation Jump to search

The Unassigned is a large, mostly flat and empty, unmapped area that connects all of DDO's public area and quest instances together. (Actually, it is a little more complicated than this - there are four distinct areas ("Regions") in the game world which aren't directly connected, one for each game setting. See Location for more.) Many areas are completely encircled by invisible walls, but it is sometimes possible to escape the defined boundaries of an area and enter this connecting zone. This even includes areas such as the Postern Gate Wilds which have been "removed" from the game.

Entrances to the Unassigned are usually patched out shortly after being brought to the attention of the development team (be mindful when streaming or making a publicly available video), as invisible walls are added or fixed to block off access. (As instructing players how to enter the Unassigned is probably rather skating the line of DDOWiki's policy against describing game exploits, and likely violates DDO's own terms of service, entrances will not be listed here.) However, there are places from which the area can be seen but not accessed:

  • The best view is probably from the Marketplace after a Teleport spell malfunctions - looking down and around displays a large flat green expanse, the inner edges of the Unassigned.
  • Players with a high Jump skill and a mount may also be able to view the area by jumping up the eastern wall of Gatekeeper's Grove, which had an entrance for a couple of years - this has now been patched. The route is displayed here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=duF6NkF4ruc
  • During the opening days of Update 60, it was possible to fall into the huge void beneath the Unassigned (containing all Eberron's enclosed areas) if you fell down into the floor of Just Business (a bug had caused the invisible floor in this and some similar quests to stop catching players.) After falling a considerable distance, you reached the boundary of DDO's game world, whereupon you were forcibly teleported to The Portable Hole.
