Strahd von Zarovich (purple-named)
Monster Manual classification: Unknown
Alignment: Chaotic Evil
Boss: Purple Named - Powerful Boss
CR: ●♦38Epic Normal ●♥42Epic Hard ●♠68Epic Elite
Attack: Sword (Slashing), Shadow Burst (Negative AoE)
Special Qualities: Regeneration, Legendary Ward, See Invisibility
Habitat:
Description: Strahd appears three times during the raid. Throughout all three of these fights, he cannot be killed, instead being briefly stunned when reduced to zero health and returning a few seconds later fully healed. Furthermore, he is impervious to all damage if he has not recently been struck with the Sunsword. (The Echo of the Sunsword will not work.)
Strahd first fights you inside the Heart of the Castle, where he cannot be killed, instead fleeing when all his summoned minions are slain. He then patrols the crypts while the party hunts for the five cards - he can be brought to zero health here, but it will not kill him and he will be fully healed as soon as the party enters the final boss fight, so attacking him is pointless. Finally, he confronts you in his own tomb, backed up by three red-named vampire brides. To kill him here, you must reduce him to zero health, and the bearer of the Sunsword must then interact with his coffin before he can heal to full while all three of the brides are also dead (note that the brides also resurrect after a short interval.) This will destroy Barovia's Darklord for good.
