Talk:Floating icons?

I tried searching to see if there was a wiki page here for this, but had no luck -- maybe I'm not using the right search term. Is there a guide to the different visual icons and effects that correspond to different skills/events etc in game? I am thinking like what you see in game for successful Intimidate or Sneak or Spell Resistance checks etc. DanteIL (ContribsMessage) 10:38, February 9, 2016 (EST)

  • What do you mean skills/events? There is no guide, but I'm trying to understand what you are asking for so I can determine if it is something that could be made. ShoeMaker (ContribsMessage) 10:50, February 9, 2016 (EST)
    • When you preform an action, such as Intimidate, Bluff, or Diplomacy, to affect a mob, that mob will show an icon above its head for a couple seconds so that you know that mob was affected by your action. Also, when you are casting spells that are affected by Spell Resistance, and you fail to penetrate that resistance, the mob shows a blue octagon above its head to let you know that mob was not affected. These are the "floating icons" the OP is referencing. In addition, there's also the chest blessing animations, but those are relatively specific to that purpose.
As to the OP question, I don't know either if we have a page, or if we need a page for it. There's not that many icons such as that. If the floating icons were included, I'd probably say it's better if each individual icon is listed on its appropriate page (the Intimidate floating icon on the Intimidate page, etc...) Yes, thank you -- that is what I meant. Sorry, it is hard to describe them since they're visual. Personally, I think this would be very useful New Player information -- and also for older players like myself who are still learning. I often see mobs around me suddenly get these yellow or red blobs above their heads and I don't know what I did to trigger anything. Having this info on the separate effect pages wouldn't be as useful because it would require already knowing what the icon means. But, if this doesn't exist already and other people don't see a need for it, then that answers my original question. DanteIL (ContribsMessage) 14:10, February 9, 2016 (EST)

  • Okay, that was what I thought, but I was confused as there is no icon I'm aware of for sneaking and there are no "event" icons. There is just Diplomacy, Intimidate, Bluff, Spell Resistance, Blocking, Bleeding, and Saves that I know of that show up on a monster itself. Then there are damage effect icons, which show up in the damage string to indicate fire/cold/force/psn/etc damage... ShoeMaker (ContribsMessage) 15:17, February 9, 2016 (EST)
    • The only sneak icon I can think of is the "question mark" to indicate they think they hear you.
In regards to utility, it's simply my own opinion. Then again, I'm more of an experienced player and it may be better for newer players if they were listed somewhere. Habreno (ContribsMessage)
