Floating Damage Text
On a successful hit, a line of text and icons will appear above your target describing the hit you just did. Each type of damage dealt is shown as "-number icon". The number is the amount of damage dealt, and the icon indicates the type. Primary weapon damage is generally shown first, but will only display one damage type icon if several are applicable (e.g. if the weapon counts as both good and lawful). Similar information can be found in textual form in the combat log.
Similar effects appear over your head for any incoming damage and/or healing that you receive. In addition, you see numbers above the heads of other players for healing they receive from you (or possibly damage, if in a PvP area.) You do not see healing on other players or damage dealt to monsters unless it was done by you or a creature or pet that you summoned.
The icons represent various damage types and modifiers. They include:
- Elemental damage
Bludgeoning, piercing and slashing damage, positive healing, positive damage to undead, and rust damage do not display any symbols.
- Special effects
- Double damage from Doublestrike or Doubleshot
- Extra damage from being within Point Blank Shot range
- Reduced damage due to a Grazing hit
- Indicates the damage killed the target
Vulnerability, Resistance and Immunity[edit]
The colour of the damage number changes if the target resists or is vulnerable to that damage type. Note that these colors can be changed in the user settings.
- Orange numbers show normal damage.
- Purple numbers show extra damage.
- Yellow numbers show reduced damage.
- Gray numbers indicate the damage was prevented (typically by DR for physical damage and Resistance for magical damage.)
- Green numbers indicate target healing.
- Blue numbers indicate target spell point regeneration (this is only seen on players; there is no equivalent for spell point consumption.)
If the target is immune to some or all of your damage, "immune" will appear instead of a number. If a target takes reduced or no damage from an effect by making a save, the text "Reflex save" (or "Fortitude save"/"Will save" in rare cases) appears after each type of damage that was reduced.
