Categorization issues[edit]

re: Categorization issues:

 We need to come to an agreement about a Quest / Location..
The components for the blanks aren't really the Shroud..
Perhaps we could change it to "The Vale of Twilight, crafted item"? - Tech

Technically the most correct location for where you make these are in Meridia - more specificly, The Eldritch Chamber. Personally I think it's fine how it is, as if we change it to meridia, that just seems more confusing to me. As the bottom line is: No one uses greensteel blanks. Everyone uses T1/2/3 Gs. T1/2/3 GS are made in the Shroud.

More importantly, they are raid loot in every sense of the word.. ATM I have the Raid loot  set up pretty nicely, and it explains that yes GS are not made in the shroud, imo thats more then enough to cover this topic.

If we change it to meridia/eldritch chamber.. Well the raid loot categories suddenly gona contain non-raids, thats ugly imo.

Now what Bladedge is doing also doesn't work:

  • First off, it's just a plain invalid use of the template: Every weapon should have either chest/end reward or turn in filled. Your not filling them, thus your using it incorrectly.. And the result is that GS weapons get no location based categorization, and thus I can't do anything to get them into our nice raidloot category.
  • Secondly it's too wordy. 6 words in what we used to explain 2.

I'd say put it back to "The Shroud" and use the chest = to tack on a qualifier if you want it to be clearer.. As our auto categoziation simply wont work any other way.

Well I have the template open in front of me the whole time and this is what it says not my words.

|chest = <!-- Leave blank if not used-->
|end reward = <!-- Leave blank if not used-->
|turn in = <!-- Leave blank if not used-->

So Iam using it correctly base on the usage section I left it blank cause its not used or should I have included the <!-- --> in that area or removed completely?

Or are you looking for
|Quest = Meridia
|turnin = Altar of Fecundity - Manufactured Ingredient Recipes
(I would go turnin since they change it soon.

And what 6 words we had "The Shroud, possible drops from the chests after each phase of the raid " which is 100% wrong none of these items come from the shroud and "Altar of Invasion to Altar of Invasion - Manufactured Ingredient Recipes " semi correct but there are multiple parts and I got this Idea from Alchemical Crafting section. Bladedge 13:26, March 26, 2012 (EDT)

Technically, Shade, The quest= "Should" be The Vale of Twilight whereas most of the blank ingredients needed to make a GS blank are obtained there (whether in-quests or in the explorer area itself), most importantly, the quests in the explorer area are where the BtC Shavarath Signets are found that are required to make the blank. As for the crafted item part, I should probably modify the template for crafted items anyways because they are not found in chest, on end reward lists, or as a turn in to any NPC.. As for your C:Raid loot, It would be simple to add an "|raid = (exists)" to have it drop it in C:Raid loot automatically. I also 110% agree with Bladedge (Contribs • Message) that "The Shroud, possible drops from the chests after each phase of the raid " is 100% wrong. ShoeMaker (ContributionsMessage) 14:09, March 26, 2012 (EDT)

It's all silly semantics and irrelevant imo. We all know full well everyone who's interested in green steel will read a guide how to do it, not mysteriously search the wiki for a specific green steel weapon and get confused that the page doesnt have a whole guide explaining it.

It's like you guys are thinking like machines.. Your trying to correct a problem that doesnt exists except in theory. If someone actaully came to the wiki and posted I went to the GS greatsword page but couldnt figure out how to make one.. Sure, lets correct it.. I haven't seen that happen.

Anyways yea I agree its technically wrong. But its a complex topic. Tech13 your technically wrong also because some Shroud weapons - newer ones simply can not be made by going to the vale of twilight and the quests within.. The ones that require horns - horns only drop in the shroud. So : possible drops from chests in shroud - is't quite 100% wrong. Maybe 87%? heh.

I personally don't care what it says in that box. My issue is they need a home to fit into our raid loot category. If we use blade edges.. It's automatically set to

 Root > DDO library > Items > Items by quest name > Raid loot > Altar of Fecundity - Manufactured Ingredient Recipes reward items

Thats a bit too long imo. And also doesn't match the tree or the naming policy.. As it's by quest name, but theres on quest name there. and it says "reward items" - which is only used for quest rewards, but its not a quest reward, its a crafted item.

RE: Tech template raid =, I dont want a big pile of raid items in 1 category, thats all your idea would do. Just want Green Steels location category, to have it's parent be Raid loot, like all the other raids.

Could use: Quest equals Altar of Fecundity chest equals , Crafted item - See Manufactured Ingredient Recipes, and have that redirect to the longer page title showing the steps.

RE: Bladedge - why we dont use turn in for crafted loot (even barter ui).. Mainly just cuz its a template limitation. It categorizes (well names it per that) into the quest rewards section, and well yea GS aren't quest rewards. It's only intended for collectable turn in's the end in a quest reward.. eg: Necropolis shields/weapons/helms.

It also forces it to read: Turn in XXX text.. You can't customize it like you can with chest. So to be accurate, you would have to fill every single ingredient into that line, and well it would be long and messy.

So use chest. Yea its wrong, but its internally wrong, and not visible to the end user unlike turn in.

Or we can do it the easier way: Leave what bladedge has (not a big deal that it doesnt follow the spec). And just manually put it into a Category:Upgradeable Shroud loot or similar and ill put that into the tree.

Shade idea + a minor modification:

  • quest = Altar of Fecundity (Proper location of all GS blanks. Page may have to be updated to include horns and the other missing items.)
  • chest = Manufactured Ingredient Recipes (no need for redirect unless there is a no using a pipe link, the piped link work fine in the preview)

Add I take it these two line are fine?

  • crafting = Green Steel Item
  • craftingupgrade = <!-- yep -->
Bladedge 17:43, March 26, 2012 (EDT)
Any finial word hate to leave this in limbo. Bladedge 17:42, March 27, 2012 (EDT)

Yea thats fine. I'll put Altar of Fecundity in raid loot category. Thought crafting might as well equal just "Green Steel". As it points to the same place as the item enchantment.. So it would look cleaner to have them be the same, rather then the user seeing two different links, and possibly wasting time clicking both, only to see they go to the same place.
